My contractor couldn't get the button off, Pep Boys couldn't either. An auto glass company couldn't either. I ordered a new one and went to play golf! Too bloody hot and now I can't take the car to the beach. Poor poor pitiful me!

Ah AJG, subsequent to writing that I thought , he won't know where that's from so he won't see the humor. This dry sardonic wit of mine is most often misunderstood. This was pulled out of a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western. Perhaps I should have thrown the word gringo in to tag it better! And some might reflect on the possibility of a moral stench as opposed to a physical stench! Done pontificating! Lol

The saga continues. So the metal quarter size button was glued to the window. Shop didn't scrap off previous plastic. I try to click the mirror on no luck. Spray a little wd40 and try again. Meanwhile I'm thinking boy I hope this holds, goddammit I pull the quater size piece off the window. Excuse my French. I'm pretty sure all the parts are correct. I just can't click the mirror on to the quarter attached to the window. On a bright side I finally got to drive the car and check out the rear brace. You can feel it and it even seems to be sensed in my seat. Also seems like my annoying rattle sounds different. A little less. Any suggestions on the mirror? I need to have it on to do the de at Watkins glen this weekend!

mine has a set screw. and when it is removed the mirror slides off the window bracket

No screws. Yet upon closer examination, the area where the mirror slides and clicks onto has tw prongs which appeared to be blocking the attachment. So I bent the a bit. Quarter piece is now relied to mirror and I will attempt this tomorrow. Gotta say I feel particularly inept here. Oh well

Joy in Palookaville! For all you non-mechanical mooks like boy wonder here the mirror is attached to the window. I just screwed a hole in the mirror and then through the windshield ran a nut and bolt, torqued it up applied crazy glue and voila. Problem solved. Just kidding. Upon close inspection, the quarter button which clicks on to the mirror has two prongs inside to firmly attach the mirror. My problem despite my ignorance was that these two prongs were preventing the mirror from clicking in. So I bent them a little, flattened them out and the mirror clicks in and seems to be firm. Seems like I might have thought of this some time ago but. And of course no instructions came withe the mirror or the button. Not that this would have mattered because I have tried to read and understand some of Flash's instructions, which are straight forward enough, and thought WTF. No knock on Flash at all. Please tell me I'm not the only idiot here? Lol

You're asking for a bit too much. :-) Kidding !! Listen, I consider it a major accomplishment if I can manage to fold in AND fold out the side view mirrors, so I look up to folks like you who can figure out anything more challenging than that .

Hi, I just did this Saturday. My wife ripped the mirror off. When to Orielly's autoparts and got the 1.79 kit.



There are you-tube lessons from the manufacturer (sorry I tossed the package). The instructions are as follows:



1) take the steel button out. It slides/yanks out. There is like a track on one side and flat steel on the other.

2) Clean off the steel button. I scrapped it and then sanded it. Cleaned in acetone.

3) Mark where to put the mirror attachment on the exterior of the windshield. (this means the outside).

4) Put a primer on the steel button. Let it dry. Takes about a few minutes.

5) scrap off the old glue from the windshield. I used a razor blade in a safety holder.

6) clean with windshield with acetone.

7) Apply a few drops of their glue to center of the steel button.

8) line the button up correctly and put in place. I think you need to hold it for 2 minutes (get comfortable).

9) let it dry for 24 hours.

10) Attach the mirror. It just slides on.



This took about 10 minutes.

Thanks -- Yes I got the 10 minutes and 24 hours mixed up. Thankfully there are instructions on-line.



This really did work well. It helps to search this on youtube and to see somebody else do it.
