Rear Cargo Area
#1

I'm looking for info on the rear cargo area "cover" (not sure what to call it).
You know, one that pulls back from it's rolled-up storage area behind the rear seats and would attach to anchors at the rear on the storage area, just beneath the backend of the glass top.
Any photos of this "cover" would be appreciated, as well as to where to purchase one.

There are no aftermarket units available and the only place to order one is at the dealer. They are around 1000 euro here in europe. My advice is to take your old one, or buy a used one and have it reuphostered

Johann is correct...very hard to find and very expensive new. If you find a used one, be careful 'cause people will claim that 944 covers fit, but some do and some don't. I'm not 100% positive, but I think it depends on if the rear seat is one piece of two as the attachment is different. Like I said, I'm not 100% sure. Best thing to do is to check part numbers. If yours works, then reupholstering it is the way to go. If the retracting mechanism is broken, then you're looking at buying a new (at least to you) one. I haven't seen any fixes or solutions but I keep my eye out. I'd like to find one as well since my Coupe doesn't have one. Parts car didn't have one either. Beginning to see a trend??

I have the retracting one on my 944 S2 but the one that came with my 968 doesn't retract, it only drapes across the back and attaches to the rear of the hatch with tiny bungees. Was the retracting one available on the 968?

That's a god question Dave, I've never seen a retractable one on the 968 only the 924 and 944.

<!--sizeo:5--><!--/sizeo-->Thanks for the info guys.
My car didn't have one when I bought it last year.
As I don't really need it, and it sounds expensive, I'll just do without one.<!--sizec--><!--/sizec-->

I don't really need the cargo cover, had one on a 944 and really never used it. But I find the cargo net very, very useful. Use it all the time.

The cover is not a net. Here is a photo of my reupholstered cover and one of the rotten matelrial I replaced. Not the best photos, but you'll get the idea

Must be the Euro edition of the cover? My cover when raised has 2 large pockets that hang down buy the rear seats as well.

Mine is stock and looks just like Johann's, maybe the PO added the pockets for a special reason.

I have seen both types here in Europe, it might be a model year change?

My rear cover looks the same as Johanns, without the rear pockets, although the book that came with the car, gives the impression of a rear flap/pockets against the rear seat-back. The car is a ROW spec, originally from Singapore. The elasticated attachments to the back of the cover, have stretched somewhat, so mine is a little 'saggy'
