I bought a used CD-2 radio on Ebay for $125 - pulled from a 993- seller doesn't have the code, and is willing to give me a refund since he knows he should have had it for the sale. Since the price is pretty good, I really want to keep the unit. What are my options?
1. How does one go about getting a code on a Porsche CD-2 radio? Assume no documentation is
available.
2. If the seller can't get it, should I keep the unit and pursue getting the code myself?
Thanks.

I have been through this little adventure with my old OEM CR-1. Needed code, called dealer, got code. But the dealer asked me for my car's VIN to verify ownership...
The code is an anti-theft feature. If it was easy to get, it would not be much of a feature. Your best hope is probably the PO of the unit.
Perhaps a good stereo shop knows a shortcut? You might try SW in New Bern, NC. They advertise in Pano and Excellence.
If you do get the code, remember that the zero at the front of it is a placeholder and is not part of the 4 or 5 digit code.

I'm going to take the radio, with or without the code. At $125, I can't turn it away....
Based on what everyone here has said, I should be
able to get the code a few different ways. Thanks for the advice everyone! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Tom-
I appreciate your comment, and will heed...
The seller is getting the code from the local Porsche dealer. We'll see how this goes. I
guess if he can't get it from the dealer who removed it, I am not sure that I would be
able to get it either.
Either way, thanks. I will let everyone know how it ends.
