PPI on potential purpose
#1

So I'm looking at the PPI for a 968 I'm seriously considering purchasing, and am curious to hear what the severity of these items are.

1. Dash molding loose at emergency flasher switch(not the end of the world to me)

2. One of the 3rd brake light bulbs is out(968engineering, here I come)

3. Oil lines to oil cooler are leaking.

4. Oil pan gasket is leaking.

5. Right front sway bar bushing is swollen from said oil leak.

6. Both front control A-arms are slightly loose at ball joint.

7. Needs front brake pads and rotors before long, rears at 50%.

8. Rear window wiper doesn't work.

9. Glove box lock missing(PO has an extra one, just needs rekeyed, the glove box works fine, and if I can't lock it, it's not the end of the world).

10. Both door panels are weathered at top.

11. Both sunvisors don't stay up all the way.

Compression test results were:

1. 195 2. 190 3. 185 4. 190

(almost identical to what the car tested several years prior, when the PO bought the car)

So 3 through 6 are really the only ones that I'm questionable about. The rest is no big deal.

The rest of the maintenance(clutch(including the master cylinder, slave, and high pressure line), belts/rollers, etc) has been done recently.

See my answers inline:

1. Dash molding loose at emergency flasher switch - No problem!

2. One of the 3rd brake light bulbs is out - no problem

3. Oil lines to oil cooler are leaking - eweeee, not cheap!

4. Oil pan gasket is leaking - oh man, this is a LOT of work! And inspect the oil pickup tube for cracking when you have the pan off, and replace the motor mounts.

5. Right front sway bar bushing is swollen from said oil leak - replace after you fix the leak.

6. Both front control A-arms are slightly loose at ball joint - eeweeee again. get rebuilt a-arms.

7. Needs front brake pads and rotors before long, rears at 50% - no problem, easy to do.

8. Rear window wiper doesn't work - almost no ones does!!!!

9. Glove box lock missing - who locks these things anyway?

10. Both door panels are weathered at top - hmmm, never seen that. Could point to some abuse.

11. Both sunvisors don't stay up all the way - buy new sunvisors, not cheap.

Compression test results were:

1. 195 2. 190 3. 185 4. 190

(almost identical to what the car tested several years prior, when the PO bought the car) - looks good!!

Did you already buy it?

saxman - you have a pm response to your pm

just a note - i believe the interior of this car is grey - "weathered" door panel tops are EXTREMELY common, but oddly in this color only

oil lines are a couple hundred bucks, but may just be the o-rings

pan is a drag - a few things should be done while that is down

other than that, i concur with above

haven't bought it yet. Really want to, just want to make sure this stuff isn't the end of the world. The rest of the maintenance is so well upkept, that this is just what I'm hesitant on right now.

Are the oil lines really that big of an issue? I thought I had read elsewhere that they were a pretty easy fix to an often misdiagnosed more serious problem. Maybe that only applies to the 944's though.

I'm wondering how bad the oil pan leak is. Is this something that must be fixed right away, etc. As for the mounts, they've all been replaced on the car already.

The interior of the car is grey. The po said the same thing about the grey panels having this problem. It's really not that , just something that doesn't look perfect.

Overall, there's obviously a few things here, but it doesn't really seem that bad based on others I've seen. Would you all say yay or nay on this purchase?

For reference, this is everything he has listed as being done recently.

Complete clutch, flywheel and master cylinder replacement. - Four shocks replaced. - Four wheel bearings replaced. - Air conditioning compressor, and dryer replaced and recharged. - Power steering hoses replaced. - Engine mounts replaced. - K&N air filter added. - Co2,idle, hall sensors replaced. - Cam chain & tension sliders replaced. - Timing belt and all pulleys replaced within past 10K miles. - cabin heat valve replaced. - Windshield replaced due to stone chip. - recently passed smog with better than new car values. - Four new Bridgestone Potenza tires.

It stinks to have one slip through your fingers...especially on your birthday (Cheers!)

It does show how hard it is to let go once you have one though

Many Happy Returns,

no worries saxman - I was really sweet on one car, it slipped through due to PPI issues also, and a bit later I got a car with 1) 220 LSD, 2) 15K miles less, and 3) $3K less in price (!!)

so there you go - there's an even better deal around the corner. . . keep searching

I'm definetely keeping my eye open... ther ejust doesn't seem to be for sale right now in the way of 968's, and those that are are either convertibles or have little to not maintenance history.

Found a black 968 nearby, but the guy has absolutely no maintenance history on the car other than a 90k service he did two years ago, and is asking $14k for it, with 115k miles!
