PPI Results
#1

Had a PPI done on a very nice 968 tip coupe yesterday, 63k. The PPI found several expensive oil leaks, front and rear main seals and pan gasket. Valve cover was also leaking slightly (not a big deal there). Once again proving the value of having an inspection done. Might still buy the car but for a lot less $$ than before. You can see a few photos here:

There ya go, its money well spent! Getting all those leaks fixed, plus replacing all the parts like water pump and belts "while you're in there", will run way upwards of $2000.

I wouldn't be too surprised that a car between 11-15 years old with any decent mileage has some leaks. Mine I purchased 3.5 years ago, and had to do the front seals, valve cover, pressure sender, and still need to do the oil pan gasket. I could find a leak on 75% of these cars and probably more. Some have fixed the same leaks over and over. Good luck.

Agreed on the problem of leaks on these cars. "ol blue" is at 150K now and started driping oil at about 85K. I switched to Castrol GT High Mileage engine oil and it stopped most of the leaks (not the leaky power steering reservoir and hose connections, they took some more work!). Good luck, Bob Blackwell.
