Power steering hose is leaking
#1

I have a slight leak in the power steering hose that goes from the Res. down to the pump (I think that's the return line, not supply). It looks to be a std. fuel type hose, is this correct? Or is it a special hose w/ specific bends in it?

On PET the item is # 26 p/n 944.347.445.05

I don't mind replacing w/ factory part if there is a good reason too.

Hey Bill,

That line is not a generic part. I had the same problem and thought I would cut off the swollen end at the res. to give it a fresh bite only to find out the line would not go back on. These are reinforced rubber lines and do not stretch. The swollen end ,it ends up, is molded into the line. I was able to get a small section of the next size up line and splice it in using a plastic reducer and a couple hose clamps. It fixed the leak for a few bucks, but looks a little rigged.

Check the tightness of the fitting. It can loosen a bit, and leak.

hoses are made with specific intention as to the fluids they will pass without degradation or swelling - power steering fluids are very thin, and there are generally no filters in place in those systems to gather the contaminants - consequently those systems need hoses that have a very low rate of degradation - make sure you get a good hose that is designed for those kinds of oils

I went ahead and ordered both the hose and a new oil tank (resivoir sp?), The hose costs almost 50% more than the res. which seems strange.
