I have not used these but have on a different set up...and yes it works...much in the same way changing gearing on your ten speed bike to go up a hill...reduces the amount of power required to turn the accessory drives.

Hope this helps....to bad there so expensive

I can't speak from personal experience, but I know that flash has a set. Search the form for this item as it relates to alternators not spinning fast enough to output 12VDC at idle.

As Silvy said, The main problem would be not getting a good charge to the battery in extended stop and go traffic.

i do indeed have them

downside - not enough voltage for daily street use - i do NOT recommend them for a daily driver - fine for my toy though - very definite deficit spending at idle, even with everything off

upside - less power steering input, resulting in a better and more positive feel for me

also realize that the power increases are really below 2500 rpm - this is because the alternator and such are essentially acting like "pumps" and after that rpm, they have acheived full "pressure"

Just how much power are these engines losing because of the power steering and AC?

For a street car, none that you would notice.

i've seen charts showing 7hp, including the alternator loss, but all down low, below 2500 rpm

I had a pair on my truck w/ a serpentine belt. So it slowed down the AC, power steering, water pump, and alternator. It made a noticeable (seat of the pants) improvement w/ low end punch. It also came w/ a replacement Alternator pulley so that you don't get the voltage drop.

The problem was that I didn't have an impact wrench when I did the alternator pulley and couldn't get it torqued down as tight as they said to. I figured it would be fine. About a month later my truck made a terrible noise going down the HW. I couldn't figure out what it was until later in the day when the alternator pulley came off. woops! So I ditched the power pulleys and kept it simple and stock.

yeah - not a lot of gain to be had - it's there, and it's noticeable, but comes with complications that are really just not worth it on a street car - i'm leaving them on, but that's because i don't drive the car much - i will not be installing them on either of the other 2 968s (nor the bmw or the denali)

You could just get the under drive pully for the power steering, but the gain would probably minimal.

Is there some way to only use the power steering power pulley, so that my power steering wasn't as assisted as it is now?

I just recently switched from manual steering back to power steering and I would like a bit less assistance from the power steering.
