ok - so i'm in doing another series of mods on my car - this time it's new sway bars i just had made - i'm under the car fitting them up, had finished the rear and was working out the end link design for the front, when i see that the mounting brackets are flexing, even with the tarret braces - i observed that the new bushings are a bit snug, and i needed to expand the clamp a bit to allow the sway bar to pivot without restriction - no problem - a quick mount in the vise, flatten out the little hump at the bottom of the clamp, a quick adjustment to the flange angle, and bingo - nice and smooth now
i am then fitting the bar back up, and seeing how much wiggle there was in the flimsy porsche bracket, i decided to further reinforce the sway bar mounting by adding a third bracket, triangulating it to the front - to do that, i needed to remove the tie down hangers that are attached to the frame - no problem - i grab the 19mm and remove the driver side bracket - i then go around to remove the passenger side bracket, remove the first bolt, and when trying to get onto the second one, i go to move the oil cooler hose out of the way, and i feel a groove in the hose! - yikes!!! i have narrowly avoided a major catastrophe
as it turns out the power pulley on the power steering has been hitting the hose - there is a good 1/4" between the hose and the pulley at rest, but obviously it is hitting while things are spinning
so, i have now another project to tackle before hershey - luckily i was going to change the oil anyway, so draining it to change the hose is no big deal, and i can blow out the cooler at the same time, but for crying out loud - enough already! i would really like to drive the car a bit before i go
it looks like this engine really moves around a lot relative to the body - i'm now going to also have to check out everything else to make sure that nothing is in jeopardy
