Plug wire recommendations
#21

Your posts are helping me. I now know someone who lives in my city who has some diagnostic tools I can borrow!

[quote name='Cloud9...68' date='Jul 5 2005, 06:08 PM']OK, I just ordered the black wires with the insulating sleeves from Paragon. I also like the blue ones, but after my experience with the Nology's, I think I'll stick with what is as close to stock as possible. Thanks for all the advice; everybody wish me luck that this fixes my problem. I need all the positive karma I can get!

Did the Nology wires cause your problem? What problems did the Nology cables cause you? I was thinking of getting a set.

Should I stick with the Paragon link mentioned earlier or try out the Nology?

I've had the magnecor kv85 competition 8.5mm ignition cables on two of my last modified cars. I never had a problem with them and we have hot weather here in phoenix, it was a 115 degrees today. I am not sure how the fit would be for the 968 but magnecore does produce a quality product. Anyone have these on there car?

Here is the link to there site in case anyone is interested -

If the information in the "The Truth about Ignition Wire Conductors" at the Magnicor site can be trusted, then it would explain the issues people have reported here about the Nology wires.

Has anyone used Magnicor in their 968? It sounds to me that unless you are using high output coil, there is no real need for more than stock wires. But I believe the claims that the Magnicor wires will last a lot longer than any carbon based wire.

I know enough about electricity to understand how EFI is made and it's effect. Most of my practical experience is with very low voltage conductors in microcircuit applications. But we are taught to understand high-voltage electricity first. And the reasoning put forth in the article looks correct to me.

If Nology wires are made they way that Magnicor claims they are, then I really don't want them. I would expect them not to work any better than the stock wires, and to wear out faster.

Of course, to be fair, I should read literature from Nology, which I have not. And I need to get back to work with the little nanometer devices....

Moi? If I've given you the impression I have an array of sophisticated diagnostic tools, I'm afraid I've badly misled you The fanciest piece of diagnostic equipment I own is a 20-year old analog voltmeter!

Are you still planning to go to the HCR lunch tomorrow? I'm going to be there; it'll be basically the first Porsche club event I've participated in, since I couldn't get my car's hesitation fixed in time for the DE that was held in late June

I confess!!!

I'm one of the ones that promoted Magnecor wires and sell them on my website. I think they are great wires and peform great/but. ON THE 968 the the angled heads are not what they should be. I talked to the head guy about changing to fixed 90 degree heads and he was not willing to change.

My conclusion:Magnecore wires are cool but the connectores are not.

Coming back to another oldie but goodie. Where did you all end up with this? I need wires and I was going to order up the Paragon set, but then read Etnier's concern about the insulation. ANy problems with the Paragons?

ALso, I've seen the reds on Etniers avatar. ANyone have blue or yellow and would be willing to post pics?

Thanks

I went with the basic black OEM copies from Paragon, and they've worked fine for the past three years (I can't believe it's been that long!).

found an old photo ( this one has the previous strut tower brace, I now have the aesthetically pleasing Design1 brace ) , but I'm too lazy to run down to the garage and take a photo , and since this is all about the wires anyway here's the shot :

Which "shrinkage" software did you run this photo through to get it to post?

I just used the attachment as it was and entered in the in the browse field ( did not make any adjusments of any kind ) so it must have already been in a suitable size/format
