PROMAX RETEST - RACER X WINS AGAIN! < discussion.
#41

Hi All,

Many thanks for the warm welcome Eric.

As stated in the previous message, we have extended our discounted offer for the 968 ProMAX Performance Chip. It has always been available to members of other 968 forums at $145.00 - now you can get it here too. Just click on our banner logo in the right hand sponsor column.

The differences shown on the dyno between the vaious chips are so minimal as to be of little value. The fact is, all the tested chips perform well beyond the stock chip. I don't think anybody will notice 2hp and those figures could easilly reverse on a retest (as we have found when testing chips here). Also some chips perform better in some cars than others - everybody's specific car will vary a little in performance, compression and leak down.

Whatever you choose, a chip upgrade is a simple way of extracting more performance from your 968 at little cost and with minimal installation effort.

You can find our order page here: http://www.promax.uku.co.uk/promaxchip_usa.htm

You can download fittings instructions here: http://www.promax.uku.co.uk/chip_fit.pdf

Have a great day and enjoy those cars!

Regards,

Andrew

to be most accurate, while at the peak, the promax is only 2 hp short of the racer x, from 6600 up, the difference is more like 5-7 hp - that you can feel coming out of a corner - it's just a bit more snap

this presumes you aren't afraid of the over 7k revs - if you aren't going to go up that high, then no, you probably won't ever know the difference

Flash,

Just wanted to add my thanks for the work you have done, and I look forward to your next efforts. You have done a lot for the 968 community over and above the entertainment provided by some of the discussions. I just ordered the Promax 7100 chip as I feel it is the best chip for me, and the way I use my car. Again, thanks for the information that enabled me to make my decision.

no worries - glad to have helped

the rev limiting feature is sure to be useful to those who don't want to allow the engine to get up there, and want the security of something preventing it - there is somebody here locally that it is perfect for too

have fun

I meant RacerX. What does the RacerX chip cost? Best place to buy?

Harvey, I bought my jjRacer X chip from Speed 6 Motorsports in Austin, TX (www.speed-6.com) (512) 619-7222 and it cost $159 plus $11.95 shipping and handling and $.35 for insurance for a total of $170.80. Have been using it for over a year and am completely satisfied. (I won my class with the local Roadrunner Region, PCA again this year) Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Slight hijack here ... we now have emissions testing in Austin ... has anyone noticed a change in their 968's emission results since going to one of the fine aftermarket chip upgrades?

I'm hanging on to my OEM chip just in case I would need to switch back to it for this reason. Hopefully some 968ers in other emissions-testing locales can comment now on whether using a chip makes any difference

I have a Weltmeister chip and passed with flying colors. Any aftermarket chip that doesn't set the "Check Engine" light will pass any states smog program.

Tom,

Results from my last two CA smog tests - 1st is July 2003, I had just got it and was registering it (totally stock 18k miles). 2nd (Monday 25th) is my latest check for renewal - changes 34K miles speed-6 chip and new spark plugs about 5k ago. As you can se it passed - slight increase in the HC's and about double the NO but still well within limits.

7/29/2003

15mph 1603(rpm); 14.7(%CO2); 0.0(%O2); 85(HC max) 6(HC meas.); 0.50(CO% max) 0.01(CO% meas.); 695(NO max) 202(NO meas.) Pass

25mph 2578(rpm); 14.7(%CO2); 0.0(%O2); 50(HC max) 8(HC meas.); 0.50(CO% max) 0.01(CO% meas.); 717(NO max) 272(NO meas.) Pass

7/25/2005

15mph 1632(rpm); 14.3(%CO2); 0.0(%O2); 85(HC max) 12(HC meas.); 0.50(CO% max) 0.01(CO% meas.); 695(NO max) 473(NO meas.) Pass

25mph 2686(rpm); 14.3(%CO2); 0.0(%O2); 50(HC max) 10(HC meas.); 0.50(CO% max) 0.01(CO% meas.); 717(NO max) 573(NO meas.) Pass

that is very similar to my results as well - you should have no issues testing with the chip

get ready for testing across the country - it is about to happen - every state will very soon be requiring the same testing and have the same limitations on engine modifications as california - those states who haven't already put those things in place are just pushing the federally mandated requirements to the last minute

those of you contemplating turbo projects, be prepared
