Picked up a 951 for daily driver
#1

Well, I was going to meet up with some guys from rennlist for a dyno day.

I cancelled at the last minute to go look at some 951's that were within 200 miles from home.

I need a second car as I am racking up miles at an alarming rate on my 968. I just hit 123,000.

I commute 100 miles each day.

My 87 944 is just not cutting it anymore after driving the 68. It has 212,000 miles and runs pretty good.

So...

I looked at 4 cars. I almost but an 89 951S But it had 200k on it. LSD all the M030 stuff was still there fresh rebuild on the engine but, no records. And it was red (Ugh!)

I ended up with an 86 black on black, 94k miles, sport seats (no rips or tears, both power), fresh rotors and pads, new clutch, belts rollers water pump, all records from new, original paint in pretty good shape.

I picked it up for $5800. I am really happy about this purchase. Car runs great.

Only things it needs are AC leak fixed, new tires and an alignement.

Still needs a good cleaning but here are some pics (as these threads are usually worthless with out)

That makes for a great daily driver. Cant believe you found one w/o the burgundy intr.

Now, watch out for the mod bug, it bites HARD!

Rhudeboy, the bug hit before I got my 968. I am already looking at lindsey's

300 RWHP package.

Wow -- that's a great buy for less than $6k! I would have thought a 951 with those miles and sport seats would easily hit $10k. good job!

Thanks!

The only bad thing (to me) is that it is an 86 and no LSD. I have been looking for 3 months or so. Car drives great.

what a deal ! got the best of both worlds now; 968 gets a bit of a break and you're not compromising the fun factor in your daily drive. congrats !!

Nicely done! I have been a fan of the 944 Turbo since the beginning. Always just a few upgrades away from a a real animal. With the sweetheart deal you got, you have money to burn!

You should get the bumper sticker that says, "My other car is a Porsche", and stick it on the butt of that turbo.

Best of luck having tons of fun with both.

Thats funny I was just telling my girlfriend I should get that for a license plate frame.

No more money burn, not even on the bumper sticker.

Between the new DD and an "S" load of parts I picked up recently for the 968, I am tapped.

The 968 is getting ready for some maintenence.

Over the last month I have been putting togeather a bunch of parts:

motor mounts

rod bearings

oil pick up

wheel bearings all around

belts, rollers and water pump

and I picked up a fidanza flywheel on ebay a couple weeks back.

So the 968 will be down for a couple weeks.

I must say that when I bought the 968 I was looking for a 951 simular to this one, I just happend to find the 968. The 951 is very fun, but I think the 968 is a better car as a whole.

Hey, Once the work is done, will you be putting in on a Dyno?

I just love the look of the sport seats, would they fit straight in a 968?

Congrats on the 951 Smokie. Wish the seats were Classic Gray. How much?

That's an amazing find... Thanks for the pics. At one time I was looking for a 924 Turbo and I hard pressed to find one that was taken care of. Coincidently a few of them were being sold because the turbo was shot and needed replacement.

I'm envious of your front landscape, very nice and the distance to your neighbors house...

You must be on the East coast. On the West coast the houses are all close together.

Sold the seats last week. Sorry.

It took about a month to find the 951.

I live in the MD farm land outside Baltimore. I hated it when I first moves here after living all my life in south Fla. and a couple years in LA CA.

Car looks great.

I lived in Southeastern PA in farm country as well. Looks nice, but I spent all my time cutting grass and planting stuff. I'm in CA now and I can't even work up a good sweat cutting the grass. Leaves me time to shine and drive the 68 to the beach and enjoy the sunets.
