If you want a practical daily driver that goes, why not an Audi RS6 Avant? I picked up my wife's new A6 bi-turbo diesel yesterday and boy does it go, and provides great fuel economy to boot and does not sound like a diesel, actually sounds sporty (but this is a symphoniser).
I agree with Flash, going fast in a straight line is pretty boring. If you want to do they, buy a plane ticket. The car would have to look, sound and drive in a way that connects to your senses. Something like a Ferrari Daytona could probably get the looks and sound, but not sure about the drive (but eagerly willing to find out - if someone has one). Same for a Ferrari Testarossa - sounds and probably drives well, but looks?
Some of the best fun I have had was in a little Renault Clio Sport - like a go kart for adults, but in pure terms, not that fast. Same for the new Toyota/Subaru, it is deliberately under tyred to promote a lower overall level of grip and therefore easier to approach the "limit" and some playful fun if you are a driver.
So, the cars I look at, for inclusion in the garage would include;
Ferrari 458, Audi R8, AC Cobra replica, HSV GTS (the new 430kW supercharged version), 911 GT3 (preferably a RS to keep its value), a replica 1973 911 RS (to actually drive and not be scared if), a mint 944 Turbo, 924 Carrera GT, new McLaren (the alphabet model - what a crap name for a car), an E-Type Jaguar, an old Jaguar convertible (150K?) and Mercedes convertible (same sort of era as the Jag), 968 cab, Lamborghini Muira, Ferrari Dino, etc
