Does your wife support your habit.. I mean hobby.
#1

I remember when my car was first delivered to our home. It was backed off the truck and I drove it into my garage. Moments later I get my wife to come out and take a look at it. " I cant believe its here" I said. To which she replied. "me either" and went back inside.

When I first had the gearbox problem she was surprisingly supportive. I think it was do to me being a bit broken hearted. But when I had to take it back in for a 2nd time things got a bit heated. It was a lot of money and it was a quick return to the same shop for the same problem. My last invoice with Pete was pretty mild but we also have a lot going on so money isn't as free as it once was. As we talked about where money is going for the next few months a few smart remarks came out about the 68. So lately I've just been cleaning it and having fun running little errands around town. No exhaust for me as I feel the next item I get for that car is going to be a serious problem unless I wait till about mid 2010.

Just sharing my misery and looking for company.

I feel your pain. Same issues around my house of late. Last week I drove to Montreal for the long weekend - drove overnight and hit a BIG skunk on Rte 81 N just south of Watertown, NY at 85 mph around 2:00am. The adrenaline alone kept me awake till I arrived in Montreal at 5:00am. Noticed a new oil leak from the front under the bat wing after I parked - just a few drops when hot. I think it might be power steering fluid but I'm not sure. Could be skunk-related. Thank goodness the smell didn't catch up to the car. No visible cosmetic damage but now I have concerns regarding that small leak.

It's all I can say. +1
Also why are you cleaning it? The other one is dirty!

But further, she supports it!

She owns a 968 with chip exhaust and short shift. She drives up with me on most of my trips to RSBarn and writes the check when she gets there.

My wife bought me the first Mod (RS Barn Stage 1 chip), helped me to co-host the 968 Celebration in Newtown in 2006 and last year for OUR anniversary suggested that we buy the wind screen. I often joke about how great it is to have a wife that buys presents for my mistress.

Made in heaven,

Jay

Its great that many of you're wives are into your cars. I think mine would be to if not for all the house work going on. Either way its good to pace these sort of things (mods that is). Then you appreciate them all the more so.

I traded my wife in on a 968--far lower maintenance.

My wife is very understanding ( I guess you can call that supportive ) of my deep admiration for this car and all the fussing around it , the mods, even my thoughts of buying a second 968 to keep in storage, so I can't possibly complain.

She knows that I have a few weaknesses : clothes, watches, tequila, wine, food, cars and women. She lets me indulge to my heart's content in the first five of those categories, tolerates the fifth to some limits but might be at odds with say a decision to buy a DB9 if the same amount of money could be spent on a kitchen and bathroom remodel or new landscaping, and as for the the last category.. oh well, I don't push the proverbial envelope too far so she's pretty relaxed about stuff, but I'm not testing the limits there , it would be tough to drive this car while wearing a body cast..

But alongside with Jay's remark : " made in heaven " for sure..

lol - you have company - mine went from "hey honey - i found your car for you" to me walking in to talk about something about the car and her responding with her hand outstretched toward me to stop me and her exclaiming "car"

so, for a while at least, i'm not bringing up the supercharger project, the rotor project, or heaven forbid, the race car

I feel you.
My wife puts up with my toys but if one breaks it's too bad so sad.
It will sit until everything else is fixed first then it can get attention/money. Just her way of making sure I get her stuff done I guess.

Mine gets a little bitchy when I talk about it but puts up with it.
Generally she is supportive cause it keeps out of bars.

I sympathise with you. My wife doesn't actively support my habit.
However, she does understand that the 968, and Porsche in general, is my only real passion. Apart from her and the family, of course.
I was a Porschephile long before we met, so she knew what she was getting into.
She is okay with me going to the monthly Club meetings, and asks what the guest speaker talked about.
She's never stopped me buying an accessory or spare part. But she's never suggested an item.
But I'm okay with that.

My fiance supports my hobby. In fact, she wants her own 968....a horizon blue cab would be her ideal car. When i mentioned selling the 68 (we are in the process of buying a home), she urged me to keep it...... Said if we must, take it off the road for a while; but don't sell it. Yup, she's a keeper. It's smart advice as well. Dropping the insurance and tags for a while on a car that's paid for can free up some needed cash that could be directed elsewhere.

So many places to start on this thread.

Only 6 vices Dan? - clearly you lead a charmed life.

My SO also likes the car. Wants her weekly run to the coast (as a right seater for sure). If the future were less uncertain I would have had a buyer for the beautiful Slate Grey tip on CT. She would definately like to have her own.

As for the cash outlays, I've been thinking about how I can get cash for the PDR guy this weekend without her noticing. Likely I'll just mash the cash machine and hear about it for a while...... but honey the dents were making me craaaaazyyy..

How can anyone call those "vices" ? They're virtues, dammit ! And, the 6 are only a small segment of a significantly longer hedonistic list, modeled after the words of Warren Zevon: " I am very well acquainted with the seven deadly sins, and I keep a busy schedule trying to fit them in "

But now with a hefty chunk of our money going to our son's university tuition and expenses, I may have to hold back quite a bit on some of those "virtues" for a few years.

Should be no problem, I can resist anything.....except temptation.
