Hi I had a fright today, first the good news!, I discovered a Porsche independent dealer today right within walking distance of my workplace, so after a coffee and a chat with the owner, ( who is a 944 turbo owner), I have booked Lady P in for a chain/pad replacements early next week, as she's just tripped up to 92,000 miles. Drove the car back into the place of work, and the oil warning light comes on, closely followed by the ! warning light. stop the car, check the dipstick, after a couple of mins to drop back into sump, just below top of marker, so i add about half a litre, and check again, now right on the marker. Start the car, lights still on, good/normal oil pressure, normal engine temp, no other obvious signs of doom, so i limp back into work. and am now wondering where to start? any suggestions?, just for info, i had the dash assembly out over the weekend to replace some lamps, and repair the reflectors for better night brightness of the clocks, could I have disturbed something?, I have also just noticed that the horn no longer works on the steering wheel pad now too !

The sensor might have failed. i had to replace mine as it started to light up after about a tablespoon of oil had been used. Now only comes on when down about a third of a litre. Note that I think there is a "time delay" before it resets - if you just turn it right back on the light may stay on even if you add a bit of oil. If you wait 10 minutes it might be OK. At least mine did that.
