OIl Pressure Guage PSI
#1

When I start my engine (and it is cold) my oil pressure gauge immediately goes to a pressure reading of about 5 bars and it does not fluctuate when at idle or at high speed. It just stays at a level 5. I would think it should be at a lower pressure reading when the car is at idle and at a higher number when going faster. Should the reading fluctuate when the engine and oil is warmed up or hot? Is something wrong and how do I fix it if it is wrong?

First, it's bars. If it was 5 psi you would really have issues. When the car and oil are cold, aka when you just turn it on, you will have a lot of oil pressure even when at idle. What you said is normal.

yup - when dead cold it can pop up near 5 - then after it warms up, idle pressure should drop down to anywhere from 1 to 3 bar - at 3k rpm it should be no lower than 3 bar and should go up to around 5

OK Flash you say when its cold it should be 5 bars and then drop to 1-3.

But if it does not drop and stays all the time at 5 bars what is broken? The sending unit or the gauge? And how does one fix this problem?

yup that is the story, I had not given it enough time to warm up. Starts at 5 when cold then goes down at idle to abbout 2-3 and then back to 5 when accelerating. Thanks Flash
