I guess we can conclude this thread by stating that, if your 968 consumes a quart of oil in less than 500 miles then there's a serious engine problem requiring investigation. Look for obvious signs like a buggered cylinder head, product development test-mule [hehe], etc and you will most likely be pointed to the cause. Sitting for long periods doesn't have anything to do with it.

Now that I work from home, the 968 isn't driven on a daily basis, sometimes sitting for 3 or more days. Oil consumption is 1 qt./ 1200 miles a portion of which is lost to a leaking oil pan gasket. No observable change from when it was a daily driver.

For what it is worth, for a Riviera Blue 968, every cent you invest is worth it. Great colour and great looking car. Sorry to read the issues, but happy that there is a reason and it is fixed.
