Knock Sensor 2 Code
#1

I need some technical help. I noticed the check engine light was on but the car still runs fine. I checked the codes and it was for knock sensor 2. Do these typically fail or is it usually a wiring problem? Lastly, how do you reset the check engine light?

Thanks!

There are quite a few threads on the knock sensor issues, their replacement, and how to reset the CEL. Here's one, for example:

Make sure you replace the special bolt that holds knock sensors in.

A little update and the perils of getting old. So, I had noticed my car being what I would call sluggish. It started okay, ran okay, just didn't seem to have what it had when I got it. I was thinking it is getting old and tired.

So, one day my son drove the car. He came back and asked me why the check engine light was on. What??? It seems the light is so dim in the daylight that I never noticed it! I found the knock sensor code and looked it up in the Porsche repair manual. It seems that the computer retards the timing 6 deg. when it gets this fault!!!

I changed the sensor, drove the car, and the power is back. Such a simple thing can make such a huge difference. Lastly, the #2 sensor is a PITA to change. I felt like a surgeon working in that small opening.
