RS Barn is now a stocking distributor of Cobalt Racing Brake Pads

We have been testing XR Series Carbon Ceramic brake pads for two years and have an awesome combination that will help you "Out Brake" the competion.

XR2 front and XR3 rear pads work magic with the 968 chassis. Better yet they are forgiving to rotors and last longer too.

Features:

-true 100% "no-bedding" required

-unmatched disc finish with a minimum 50%

improvement in disc life as compared to other

material with similar torque

-highest torque vs temperature stability

-highest repeatability vs heat cycles of any racing brake pad.

-industries broadest temperature range 100-1600 degrees F

Dramatically shorter stopping distances have been achieved. You almost need to Re-Learn the capability of your car!

One test customer described them as his "Secret Weapon" and wasn't so happy that RS Barn is now offering to the public!

These are the Racing Brake Pads used by teams who don't get paid. Used in Rolex,SCCA Pro,NASA,BMWCCA.

The Cobalt XR3 has won more poles in Mazda Pro SCCA MX5 Cup than all other manufactures combined.

Looks like they won't fit a stock street car without MO3O option. [Image: sad.gif]

Going to guess the squealing would drive you nuts on the street. Very nice track pad from what I have read.

I have a customer who keeps them on all the time but!!! I'll ask him pro/con for noise-dust

I will have a package for non MO30 cars. We tested that too. Those XR2 front pads are being made right now.

Eventually there will be a Club Sport Pad for street/Autocross/DE

Not sure if anyone picked up on no heat needed to have full braking power.

I have used these pads for street and DE for a year and a half. I got them after trying several different pad compounds intending to run them for DE events only, but they are so good in all conditions I just left them on all the time. Dust is average and they are the quietest non-OEM pads I have used. Really, they hardly ever squeak. As mentioned above, they also don't require temperature or good weather - they just work. I can't think of any downside to running this pad. Having spoken with folks at Cobalt, this friction material beds to the rotor differently than other brands, which is what makes all of this possible.

Good to hear about the noise/dust on the street that is not common on a racing pad. Wish I'd known about them before I ordered rotors and pads for my Audi this morning.

This is really great news! I had my car inspected last week and my current pads are "almost new". The BHP pads that Pete put on are NLA and I have been very worried about replacements. Now I don't need to worry when that time comes.

Pete,

Do you have a 993 Twin Turbo front (Big Red) option?

Thanks,

Craig,

I will have those pads as well.

I need to decide if I want XR3 or XR2 . My 968RS with TT front brakes was way over biased. I had to run 964 Cup bias valve to keep from locking front brakes with equal friction front and rear.

Pete,

When the bigger brakes were fitted, the brake bias valve was also changed to suit. Not sure what the change was, but I do not have a problem with rears locking (currently). I am only running standard rear rotors and callipers.

Let me know what your thoughts are (as I assume you are running bigger rears). The rotors are not cross drilled or slotted.

Thanks,

Craig

Craig,

The 968TS/RS big reds locked up front end (big time) with equal brake pads. I had to put a really rear biased valve in to stop that. The stock rear rotors and calipers are fine with S4 fronts.

How well do they work with cross drilled rotors on non M030 brakes?

I need new pads for my new rotors which are cross drilled.

They will work great.

One of the nicest features is non scoring of rotors. You get an even very smooth rotor finish.

One of the problems with most race pads especially on drilled or slotted rotors is wavy finish up to 1.5mm. This puts more stress on drilled areas for cracks. you should alsways pay close attention to drilled rotors conditions.

Pete just hooked me up with a set yesterday!!! The XR pads look sick... and with as much raving about them as I am hearing, I am looking forward to try them! They went in perfect and look great. They are even slightly thicker than Hawks and other pads I have used. They definitely used every bit of space to engineer these bad boys... Hopefully can report back after Thursday if I make it to NJMP...

The MO30 front are pads are 18mm vs 16.5mm of other brands. They do take some care to install but last much longer and treat rotors much better.

My 951S customer who has MO30 fronts says it takes 25% less pedal pressure to achieve full breaking potential.

"Just let the pads do the work" and "They're Monsters" were his advice to Pablo

More good news!!!

I have a customer with a LS6 V-8 track car. One of the problems with V-8 conversion is losing the brake booster and converting to manual brakes. Even with Big Red fronts, this leads to hard brake pedal and not great stopping power.

Not any more. I had special Cobalt pads made for this application.

I'm waiting to get more detail on reduced pedal pressure and stopping distances from Watkins Glen (where it counts)
