New possible Rim
#1

Ok, I know every time you turn around I'm still looking at/for the perfect 17" wheels for my coupe...and never pull the trigger

The latest is a wheel by Sports Edition (?) the Cup 4 it comes in 7.5x17 (52mm) @ 23.4lbs and 9x17 (47mm) @ 24.4lbs - so it keeps the right widths and the offsets are the same as the cup 2 replica IIRC - a little heavy but I can live with that...the deal is I can get them through The Tire Rack with mounted and balanced Sumo HTR Z III's for less than $1,200 shipped...thoughts

B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L , IMO..

As for the cost : seriously ? I think that's an amazingly low price.

That is one nice looking wheel. I like the style better then the turbo twist which I purchased.

Couldnt live with the weight thing though. That's about the same weight as a set of 18s

Factory wheels give great bang for the buck. I recall the MR2 guys were getting stock 300ZX wheels because the size and weight couldn't be beat. That holds true with many factory spec alloy wheels.

Looks nice, but I'd go factory. They are lighter, stronger and cheaper.

Agree ( lighter ), Agree ( stronger ), ..uh.. WHAT ?! ( cheaper )

Last I saw, a brand new set of factory Cup II 17s ( easy Flash, just staying consistent with the terminology of this thread ) from the dealer were about $ 400 a piece. These are $ 170 for the 9s and $ 160 for the 7.5s..

But why buy new?
Plenty of nice used cheap ones out there.
Just my opinion of course.

In that sense, no doubt one can find decent ones at reasonable prices. I was just comparing them on an equal basis since the tire rack ones are "out of the box" new. And this style is not a replica of an existing Porsche OE wheel... or, is it ?

I think that is a rep of a wheel reffered to a sport techno.
I could be wrong though.

FTR-
17 cups Front 18lb
17 cups Rear 19.5lb

that's an incredible value. Rims at that weight today are hard to find and you pay out the *&# for them!

Thanks for the reaction so far - for me I don't like the look of twists (weight is great) and I don't really like the fat spokes of the C2 or the flat spoke on the 993 cup wheels...so finding a 17" (don't want to go up to 18's either - though there are a number nice 18's I would take) is tricky - there are some boxster wheels that come it 17x8.5" that I like the look of (with those I would go 8.5's all way around). So I really like the look of this rim and for a coupe of pounds per wheel I'm thinking thats something I could live with...also remember that this is my daily driver so the 80/20 rule comes into effect....

I love the Sport Classic II ( I think they're still on the wheel enhancement site ) and they do come in 17s, but looks like they'd be a a p.i.t.a. to keep clean.
No idea how much they weigh.

The thing is, if you go for wheels with such narrow spokes you have to have some bling (Big reds with cross drilled rotors) behind it to make the combo look good. IMHO stock rotors will look silly.

Personally I'm not a fan of the this kind of wheel because the car looks different from the passenger side than the driver's side and that will always bug me. Turbo twists, Boxster/996 wheels are the same, I just don't understand why they don't make the spokes point the same way, no matter which side of the car you're on

Sam,
I'm running 9" ET55 17" twists all around on my track car. 21.5 lbs each. One set I purchased as a set of 4 from a racer, the other set I put together by buying two sets of 7s and 9s and them selling off the 7s to someone on VWVortex. A set of 9s should run you $500-$600.

Spokes are too skinny for my taste. Could be that the photo shop pic isnt to scale.

The pic just proves my point about "Big Reds" and cross drilled rotors....or maybe even ceramics

"or maybe even ceramics "

Ah, we can always dream. A set would cost far more than most 968s are worth nowadays, sadly.

i'm not a fan of those at all - a little too "artsy" for my tastes - i'm a simple guy when it comes to rims
