New 968 owner, here's some pic's and a question...
#1

Just picked her up the other day. 1993 Amazon Green w/137K miles. Washed with Dawn, used P21S paint cleanser, then Mequiars NXT using microfiber towels.

Boy does this baby shine!!!

Enjoy all the pics, they're big! And be sure to make the pictures expand once you view each.

Question: what size/rating battery should I have in a 93 coupe?

Beautiful. I suggest you clean that oil fill cap before taking more engine closeups. java script:add_smilie("<img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />")

Ooops, I guess "drag 'n drop isn't the way to insert a smilie. Let's try something else. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

RPM - could you do me a favor? Could you look underneath your sunroof (gotta take it off) and see if on the bottom (underneath the plastic stuff) is painted a kind of forest green?

Reason I'm asking is because mine does. And I'm just trying to figure out if that's the way to paint our color. Bottom coat of green, then apply the metallic blue, then clear coat.

Let me know...

As far as batteries go, I'm quite happy with my Exide Supercrank, group 41, 835CA, 675 CCA, from Sam's Club. Its dimensions are very close to the OEM battery--$49.76 installed. And, the Sam's Club "kids" love to work on Porsches.

NeedPorscheSpeed - is that two 968's you own? What a stable! Can I see some pics of your garage?

I'll take a look tonight. Just had some repairs done that involved paint. Shop sourced Amazon Green Metallic as a single paint - no layering of different colors to achieve the green/blue effect.

The trunk well where my spare tire lives is definitely greener and duller than the exterior color.

May be a clearcoat/no clearcoat difference.

That's what I'm thinking! I guess I need to get together with some other 968's and we'll compare "amazon greens"!

Thanks very much! Actually, the Amazon Green Machine is my father's. I owned her for about 3 weeks last June, but my father liked her so much that I sold it to him. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I'm flattered by your interest in my cars. If you would like to see more of them, click on "View Vehicles" to the left of my signature picture. I have put several pictures of each car in that section, as well as information about my heavily modified 951. The Amazon Green is not currently listed, but I will create a slot for it now, since you are a bit partial to Amazon Green. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I hope you enjoy! I only wish I could make all of them shine as beautifully as your lovely lady now does! Please know that your car has been my desktop background for several days now. I usually change it every day (to another Porsche), but yours has been at the top of the charts for a while!

Nice Coupe! Grats on a fine purchase.

One note though on using Dish Washing Liquid on your car, you shouldn't. That stuff is harsh and designed to cut grease and it will do nasty things to paint over time. Anything you can buy at your local autoparts store that is made specifically for car washing should be used only. I personally use Griots.

Cheers!

Seric lots of detailers use Dawn to cut through the old wax and polish on cars. It is great to strip these down to do claybar, wax and then polish. I bet the chemical makeup of Pepboys car wash soap is very similar to dish soap. They just don't advertise it.

I only use the Dawn when I want to strip the car for polishing and waxing.

I normally use Mequiars car wash - cleans the nasty stuff but is very gentle on the wax.
