Stereo replacement - what to do with the alarm wire?
#1

I've read through much of the postings on installing a new stereo. I've got my old CR1 out and I've got everything ready to go, except I'm not sure what to do with the alarm wire.

Choice are to ground it or just leave it disconnected. I drove into work today with the unit out and nothing connected without problems. I'm thinking I'll just do nothing. I don't like the idea of grounding a wire that is at 2.4V. It will just drain the battery. I read that folks have done this either way. Does leaving this floating cause a problem?

I'm also connecting the antenna power-supply to the switched power.

Putting in an Alpine CDE-HD148BT. (Next - the speakers).

Thanks.

i just leave it disconnected in every car in which i do an install. it's only there so as to sound the alarm if somebody pulls the deck.

very familiar with the 147BT. great deck. i've installed 2 of them now. the 148 is essentially the same, but with HD radio. good choice.
