More Exhaustion.......Cargraphic
#1

I've read all of the posts in this forum on exhaust modifications.  I'm leaving headers out of this discussion (for the moment). It seems most are really wanting more sound out of their 968 with the HOPE they can have a little extra power across the RPM range without a sacrifice somewhere.  The conclusion seems to me, no matter how odd the OEM exhaust configuration appears, Porsche perfected it so well that any different setup has resulted in a sacrifice somewhere in the RMP range.

According to the discussions, it seems the RS Barn Catback was the only system that came close to delivering. But, RS Barn is gone now.  Billy Boat seems to be the second favorite.  However, the BB website claims increases over stock HP numbers but the Dyno numbers presented are obviously not from a 968. I personally spoke with Mr. Boat a few weeks ago and he was unaware of the numbers on his website and said he had no idea where they came from and that if there ever were any supporting Dyno information for his 968 catback, it had long been lost.

What all of these aftermarket systems do seem to provide is a change in sound and a weight reduction if you can live with the possible performance shortcomings.

So, back to the perfection of the original configuration. Cargraphic makes a system which maintains Porsche's original configuration, delivers more sound (two versions), saves weight and, like the others, claims HP and TQ gains. The system was developed and homologated for the N-GT racing class. There is hardly any mention of this Cargraphic system on this forum and I'm wondering why. Perhaps it is the cost? It is expensive, but given it is the only system that starts with the original design Porsche seemingly perfected for the 968, just maybe it delivers on something the others have fallen short on?

Does anyone have any personal experience with the Cargraphic catback? What am I missing here (cost aside)?

The system is "modular" so you can get everything from the headers back (or just catback), or just certain pieces as direct bolt-on for OEM pieces. Here is the link:

looks nice.

i think, the majority here is based in US,  and cargraphic is german brand  so maybe that is why it is not listed here.

my friend did a catback, very similar to the older version of RSBarn for me, a single pipe design with only the rear muffler, it is quite loud so i think this, 2 pipe design will be a bit quieter

I look at cost of things like this... I ask myself, "Can I buy a used car for that cost?" and if the answer is yes, I usually pass.

I saw the price and thought, um, no. and moved on.

Having a cab, the last thing I want is a hugely loud & obnoxious exhaust note.

It bad enough I have to deal with all the Harley Heads down here with no baffles in their pipes, and the booming stereos that you can hear from another country.

I think the sound of the car stock is pretty enough, but to each their own.

Sound is very subjective,  so indeed “to each his own“ in that respect..   I for one prefer like the BB catback sound to anything else I heard on the 968,  everything else sounded too raspy for my taste .. ( have not heard the cargraphic “ live”, only on video ) .

On theme .. ( somewhat ) .

I was in the parking lot of a grocery store, outside my car still loading it up when I heard ( yes, heard ! ) and saw a Tesla drive by me, about 10 ft. away . I think it was their cheapest model ; looked like the first generation 3 series . The driver had the windows down but I couldn’t tell if the sound was coming only from the inside speakers or if it was also was piped-in to an external speaker somewhere as well .. In any event , it was a simulated exhaust sound .

So for those of you guys who heard those Honda Civics with the $ 20 aftermarket coffee can mufflers and 10” diameter tips hanging down from the back end, which sound like someone is cooking popcorn and farting in the pipes at the same time.. well, that’s a lot better than the infernal note this car produced. I can’t even describe it , it was just awful , IMO .

Why even bother ?! Buy a Tesla for the reasons you’re buying a Tesla and leave it alone, stop trying to make it sound like a real car, it will never be one ! IMHO .

Ugh, piped in music .. probably for those who also think fake orgasms are great ..

You sexist pig. Be careful the monitors in Ca don’t get you. Muffler notes are interesting. I agree that so many of these notes on rice burners sound horrible.

We don’t have a large Asian population here. This is a term used just for loud and noisy  cars. Zoom zoom.

I of course meant no offense.
