Midnight blue coupe in East Dallas
#1

I saw a good looking dark blue coupe on Lover's Lane yesterday in East Dallas. If it is a neighbor I would welcome the chance to grab a drink and share 968 info. The car looked to be in great shape!

Could it be Lonestar968? His coupe is Midnight Blue. Saw it at Escape 2010.

Mustang...that was me! I think we live about 3 blocks apart. I am on University and see your black cab from time to time. What are the odds of two 968's that close. PM me so we can share contact info and yes, let's grab a brew! BTW, the color is Iris Blue Pearl. The midnight blue is a few shades darker in the sunlight. Your cab looks great!

Iris Blue " PEARL " ? Is that the full paint name for our Iris Blue ? ( pretty sure there was only one shade / type of iris blue...as opposed to midnight blue, which had two different shades options )

There are several shades of Porsche blues that look similar, especially in photos. The midnight blue is very dark while the Iris Blue Pearl is a dark blue that brightens up significantly in sunlight. I recently learned (when ordering touch up paint) that there were two versions of Iris Blue Pearl based on the year of production. Earlier versions were petroleum based paints and the later versions were water based. However, Porsche only carries the water based touch up. There is another color of metallic blue that is several shades brighter than Iris Blue although I can't recall the name. If you go to Dr. Color Chip and toy around with the 968 paint options you can get a better sense of the differences.

I had to see a midnight blue 883 next to my iris blue pearl 968 before I really understood how different they were.

Guessing you may be thinking about the Cobalt blue. Hmm, did not know different base paint was used for iris blue depending on the production year.. interesting stuff. Mine is a late 94, so perhaps water based..

The 968 was definitely painted in some nice shades of blue. Maybe my next 968 (the engine of which will serve as the donor for my turbo conversion project, which will end up in the track car <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) will be blue.

Wouldn't mind having one in Riviera Blue. Really grows on you.
