Midnight blue cab ON VESUVIUS !!
#1

Of all the places ... about 1/4 of the way up on Mt. Vesuvius ( yes, the infamous volcano one ..in case there is more than one Vesuvius lol ) there it was - parked in the area where you leave your car and take the park transport up to crater. Midnight blue cab, ragtop was up ( probably afraid of volcano ash falling on the seats ) Only noticed it after we were already in the military style bus they use to climb that mountain so no chance to take a photo of it. By the time we came down a couple of hours later it had already left . Dang it.

That's funny ! Well, I've seen several Ferraris on flatbed trucks ( and they were not the dealer ones being delivered ) but have never seen a 968 being towed ...of wait , except mine , bloody hell !!

I can't remember the last time I saw a 968 on the road around here (besides mine). What are the odds you as an owner, would see one in such a remote and unusual place? Astronomical I would guess.

Another reason to buy a lottery ticket. Also another reason to attend the gathering in SLT, just to see other 968's!

I kinda remember reading a thread somewhere about someone purchasing a blue cab in italy, and problems they had with it.  Can't remember where tho.

I did not even have the chance ( or more honestly, did not think fast enough ..) to check out the license plate and see if it was Italian, or if it may have been among any other numerous of visitors traveling / driving here from various European countries ..given that Pompeii is among the top thre of four tourist venues, I'd think there is a good chance it could have been someone from elsewhere in Europe sightseeing Pompeii and Vesuvius . And then driving the 968 on the Amalfi coast ..lucky bastard ! Even I might succumb to driving a cab ( sacrilege , lol ) on that speactuclarly scenic roadway .

I drove recently in Italy and at times I would retract the side view mirrors as I was driving through some of the tight village roads (more like alleys...)!

I drove in France , Italy and Spain , not much difference really ; some streets are so narrow you could not even fit two Vespas ( ok, Vespe , for the Italians out there ) side by side so one of them has to cede the way , lol. But that along and folding in your side mirrors to have enough clearance is what makes it so much fun. IMHO .

I can think of nothing finer than to ship my 968 to Italy and enjoy the Dolomites, Amalfi Coast, etc. Then again, when I rode a 650 Motorcycle that got 40+ MPG from Milan, through France, across the channel and up to Liverpool to take the ferry to the Isle of Man Centinerary in 2007, fuel was 2/3rds of the cost for the trip.

Slightly off topic. when I visiting my brother in Europe there were a few things that got my attention. One day while walking through some very narrow streets I heard the unmistakable rumble of a large american V-8. Out of an impossibly narrow street comes a 4.7 L Shelby Cobra, not a replica, but the real deal. The other thing that got my attention was just how fast my rented diesel powered AUDI A6 Avant was. A real blast driving the backroads of Tuscany looking for wines to taste.

And today in Rome I witnessed a driving parade of of somewhere between fifty and sixty " lesser Porsches " ( aka 911s ) , mostly appeared to be 80s 911s , but there were a couple of Carrera RS, even one 959 , and one odd 924 with the factory hood scoop - 924 turbo s ?? - and a few newer 911s towards the end of the procession. All coupes , I have not seen a single ragtop . They had police motorcycle escorts clearing the traffic for them . Pretty funny to see that in Ferarri land !
