Cover your Hoses - New Product for SC guys
#1

I finally finished the cover project.

I never like the look of all the hoses and such, so I wanted to make a cover for the front of the engine bay. It took quite a while, and the project went through many changes, but I finally came up with something that I think cleans things up, and has more of the "factory look".

I haven't tested it yet, but just like most modern cars, this cover should help promote engine bay cooling by directing the air downward over the engine, and not let it just swirl around.

This piece comes with all the things you need to mount it onto an early 968 (one that came with the plastic engine bay covers). It is a bit more bowed than it shows in the photo, and pretty much follows the bow of the hood curvature. It locks down with the same plastic turn locks (included) as the OEM piece, and attaches in the OEM locations. Just like the OEM pieces, the material is a high density polycarbonate with a a soft grained finish much like the OEM engine bay pieces, and is temperature stable up to 400 degrees F (unlike ABS which goes soft at 194, well below what the engine bay can reach).

Price for the cover is $199. Shipping extra.

There is an optional kit of brackets and clips for those with later cars that do not have the brackets. The brackets and clips are OEM. That's right, I went ahead and sourced the actual brackets and clips Porsche used. The brackets are painted Satin Black, but can be painted whatever color you want. You can either use the template I provide with the kit and screw them into holes you will have to drill in the engine bay panels, or you can have them welded in like OEM. Your call.

Price for this kit is $39. Shipping extra.

side note:

the piece shown is untreated - i am playing with different treatments to give the plastic a bit of a sheen - so far, 303 gives it a bit - i'll be trying others over the next day or so, and make my recommendation then

not surprisingly, another piece that looks like oe/factory great idea to have the plastic turn locks so it can be removed very easily / quickly to showcase the entire SC assembly when you want to reveal the engine to admirers

thanks - i even made the holes in the cover for those just the right size so that you have to "press" in the turn locks and then they remain captive so you won't lose them

As usual, WOW!!

I'd like to order mine now, before you run out of duck tape. The duck tape model makes the entire engine compartment brighter.

had to do a bit of rework - turns out the material does get soft with the heat in the engine bay - it doesn't do what ABS does, but it was enough to cause it to sag in a couple of spots

so, i developed a support bracket (which i had planned on doing before, but i let the guys at the plastics shop convince me that the material wouldn't deform - arrrrgh) - it mounts easily to the back side of the airbox, is lined with heat barrier material to eliminate conductivity, and will prevent the issue from recurring

also, i did some trimming to make it look even better
