At the Pebble Beach councours and auction show this week , they had various of the same model cars which were produced in both manual and automatic ( some with paddle shift ) versions. The manual versions' pricing for all the makes ranged from a mere 200 % , to often as much as 500 % more than their automatic counterparts . The owner of a manual Ferrari 599 Fiorano turned down a $ 700,000 bid for his car, whereas all the other paddle shift 599s were going for $ 150,000 - $ 175,000. Like I said , building sports cars with anything but a stick shift on the floor and a clutch pedal is a crime ..evidently, savvy car aficionados agree !!
The other aspect of seeing all these gorgeous, phenomenal performance cars , none of which had any more than 12 k on tne odo ( I'd say 9 out of 10 have between 3 k and 8 k on them ) is rather disappointing ; why buy a car like that and not drive the hell out of it ?! Maybe I can understand purchasing rare cars strictly for investment reasons, IF they're not too much fun to drive , but buying a Ferrari or a McLaren or a Porsche , just to take it out once a month on a 40 mph drive to the beach and back to show it off is...lame ! IMHO .
