Hello all, My recently purchased car did not come with any of it's tools. While I know I can source an air pump, jack and lug wrench elsewhere, I can't seem to find the tool required to remove the "special" lug nut on my wheels. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

if it is the early type, it takes what looks like a normal key - this removes the cap so you can remove the lug - that will be difficult, and as far as i know is a dealer item only

if it is the later type, it is a pretty standard lug lock - mcgard made them for porsche - if you go to a dealership, they can remove them for you, and tell you which number it is (1-50) - then you can order the key for about $16 from mcgard (much cheaper than from the dealership)

If it's one of those odd shapped lug nuts that requires an adapter like my mother-in-laws beastly Caprice you can go to a tire garage and they can remove it with a special set of lug wrenches. I had a broken Porsche keyed lug nut and had to have this done otherwise I would have been screwed with a flat tire on that wheel. Yeah, that was my next question. It's the odd shaped lug nut, no keys...perhaps there's a better explanation for it. I think I'll go to a tire shop and have them replaced with regular lug nuts.

Well, first let me say that I really hope these are prosche theft deterrent lug nuts.

do NOT let them torque the aluminum nuts with the impact gun - torque by hand only to 96 ft/lbs - use anti-seize on the threads

Theft deterrent Lug nuts! That's what they are...I'm pretty sure they are Porsche issue. And I think there's a socket in the tool kit, but I don't have said tool kit. Therein lies my problem. How do I get one?

??? i only know of the 2 types for this car - the cap-over type that take a somewhat normal looking key, and the serrated type that take the hex-headed tool that slips over it

Had one set of those busted off one car by my body shop when we couldn't find the key, still have no idea what happened to the key. I keep meaning to replace the 4 on the other car before I find myself in that same situation.

That is the "standard" Porsche factory anti-theft lug nut...dealer should be able to remove and provide info as Flash suggested. If you're not worries about wheel theft, you can replace them with standard lugs or get a whole new set of 20.

I've come across this problem before. Get a hack saw, make a flat cut across the top and get a really big flat bladed screwdriver! [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif[/img]
