Photo of Factory 968 Tool Kit
#1

Would someone post a photo or two of the original factory tool kit and its contents? 1994 if it matters...

The tool kit in my current 968 doesn't "look right", but I am going from memory of 6 years ago, so....

I do have a tow hook, and other itmes as usual, but would like to check them off against a known original.

Thanks in advance!

PS: Is there a colored tag attached to the tool bag, and if so what is the color?

As requested. The tag is red.

In the trunk area there is also supposed to be an air compressor, a first aid kit and a warning triangle.

Hey super thanks! I have everything you show, except for the piece that looks like an old fashioned drill handle... the item with two 90 degree bends???

What is that and what does it do? Also, my bag is black (dark grey?) with a blue tag on it... so probably not the correct one???

I have the air compressor from Porsche, a plastic sheet, some plastic gloves, but no First Aid Kit and no Safety Triangle...

Could you post a photo of the First Aid Kit and the Safety Triangle? I will probably concourse this 968 and want everything to be correct...

You folks on this forum are super! Thanks again for all of your help!!!

Here you go.

The "drill handle" is a speed wrench for something. It has a 6mm hex wrench on one end. I don't know what it's intended to be used for, but I'd like to.

The first aid kit is better than a 3rd world hospital ER. What were they thinking?

Never store your tools like that, the will all fall out <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> And what's the significance of the paperclip - Porsche tool to set the clock <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Wow! Very very cool! I had no idea! It appears that the Triangle is a fold out kind... do you think it came with a case of some sort when new?

And yes, I can't believe the stuff in the First Aid Kit... I have owned five 951's, one 944S, one 944S2, and two 968's, and not one of them ever came to me with the Triangle or the Safety Kit!!! What do the dealers do, steal all this stuff and then sell it on line later????

What time period do you think is covered by the Triangle and Safety Kit??? 1985 thru 1995? Or....?

great post, I had no idea about the first aid kit and triangle. I only have tool kit and air compressor. I have been trying to purchase gloves for years no one will sell them. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/whine.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

First point. Yes, I have noticed Newton and his dang gravity always wins :-)

Second point. Yes, that's exactly what the paper clip is for. Clearly an oversight that Porsche didn't include it in the kit.

A million years ago I took factory delivery of a 944. They suggested I take take that stuff with me on the plane not ship it back with the car. I guess they knew that good stuff "disappeared" often.

I don't think the triangle and first aid kit are original to the 968. There are no references to them in the owner's manual or the PET catalog. Dealer added? I can't tell if you have the small hook for pulling the center cap off the wheel. Also, you need to have your plastic gloves for handling the flat tire and the large plastic bag for storing your dirty flat tire.

Good point on the first aid kit and triangle...

I am going to pass on them, and see if I get docked any points at the next Concourse Event for not having them...

Then, if i do, I will ask to see the reference to such items in the Owners Manual... there ani't any!

That should shake up the establishment! I know some of the newer Porsches, and some older ones, came with the triangles...

Not sure about first aid kits... maybe in Europe and or from the dealer???

I purchased my car new and there was no safety kit nor safety triangle with the car but there was the tool kit and a tire pump kit. The tool kit does have a red piece of plastic attached to it. They stopped putting the plastic engine trim, plus the gloves, at the beginning of the 94 model year - rats. I was ably to buy the 2 engine trim pieces at the Hershey Swap Meet and picked up the plastic gloves during one of my business trips to Bonn.

I still have the original tool kit for the 944S2 (may also have the tire pump kit) that I owned previously - let me know if anyone would like to have it.

I love my Porsche 968 but have been lovin' my 57 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe more lately, what with leather accelerator pump issues and car shows. Will try to keep up more with the 968 affecianados.

p.s. My new Starter 1:43 resin model of the Le Man 58 Porsche 968 Turbo RS is being painted right now. Lots of modifications were required from the first TRS model, which was only raced at ADAC in Germany. Estimate it will be another 4 - 8 weeks before it is done - will post photos when I get it. If anyone snags the Starter 1:43 Resin of the ADAC or Le Mans 58 model on Ebay and wants it finished, I can provide you with the guy's name and contact info. He does an outstanding job.

Hmm. Maybe I unintentionally misled you all. As mentioned I bought a new 1984 944 and picked it up at the factory. It is possible the FA kit and triangle came from that car. Since I drove it in Germany, those things probably were required. Sorry for any confusion.

And for those interested here's the sought after gloves.

"and picked up the plastic gloves"

Interesting... my car came to me about two years ago with white cotton gloves (sealed in a bag) and a cotton rag (also sealed in a bag), stored in the under-hood compartment. Would those have been "original" for a '93?

redbaron - if you do have an "extra" tire pump kit, I would be interested. Please send an email.

My 93 came with the tools (including the lock cap remover), the rubber and white cloth gloves, air comp and hot sleeves.

It was missing the the bag for the spare and rag (no first aid or triangle kit).

There is some more stuff like the straps to hold the sunroof in the hatch area but that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

Edit: the rag may be the hot sleeve used to protect your forearms from hot engine parts.

My 1994 968 came with the plastic gloves in a packet (as shown in earlier post) and the large plastic sheet to protect the interior form a dirty spare tire, I think!

Also had the Porsche Tire Compressor, and the Tool Kit, less one or two items that I have now replaced. I suspect that Porsche did not always use the same tool bags for every car in the same model year... OI know for a fact that they used up kits in the next year for the 911 series cars, going back into the 1960's....

I would love to have the front and rear engine compartment covers... I am going to call Sunset one of these days if things slow down a bit around here, and see if any are left in stock in Germany... or at any USA dealer? The white cotten gloves would be cool, but not required for the 94 model year. Did not know about the heat sleeves... maybe another european addition?

Langley - My 93 came with the gloves/rag and bag so Porsche must not have run out of them at that point <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> "There is no substitute", well actually there is when we run out of leftovers from the last model <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

My '93 has white gloves in a plastic bag in the "glove cubby", but I never looked to see if anything else was in there. I popped open the door, thought to myself "Oh, look, gloves.", and shut the door. I've honestly never dream of taking them out and using them. I have an actual pair of mechanic's gloves in one of the storage cubbies in the back for such dirty work.

Oh, and the tool kit and compressor in the back as well.

If you are including the underhood glove box found on the 92-94.5s in this discussion then there are actually TWO pairs of gloves with the 968. The white gloves in the clear bags with the red stripe in the underhood glove box and the plastic flat-tire handling gloves in the rear comparment.
