I have a problem with the ignition lock cylinder. It is sticking and needs replacement. This is where I run into problems. The only parts available are the OEM replacement that will require me to use two keys (door and ignition) in the future. The lock cylinders listed in the PET that Porsche previously would provide with a new key based on your VIN number are no longer available according to Sunset Porsche. Several other PET options are also no longer available.
Simultaneously with this problem, the shop gathering parts to repair my damaged bumper have been having trouble sourcing OEM bumperettes. Looks like the best bet at this time is a 4-6 week wait from Germany - if available.
This highlights a problem that we have mentioned before, particularly Flash. Porsche is clearly ramping down production and stockage of OEM/NOS parts for this series. Perhaps, with the low production numbers of the 968 this is not that big of a surprise. The problem we face as owners is what to do as this problem grows. And as my experiences just today seem to suggest, this problem will grow.
