Looking for a decent racing seat
#1

I had a semi-committment for a used Sparco Evo, but I just found out the guy ended up selling it to somebody else, so I'm looking for a decent used seat. I've sat in a Sparco Sport 2000, and found it to fit me very well, so something of that size should do the trick. I have an adapter, so (theoretically) I only need the seat. If anyone here has one they're willing to part with, or knows of someone who might, could you please send them my way? Thanks.

Hmm... Never heard of them. According to their web site, they seem to specialize in offroad applications, which may be a good thing, seeing as having a seat that holds you in place very well would probably be very important for offroading. What do you like about them? They're definitely quite a bit cheaper than the brands I'm used to looking at. I'll give them a buzz...

i had one in the mgb and in the sandrail. extremely light. the contours fit very well. a nice choice of covers. you will likely have to fabricate adaptors to make them fit and bolt into the car though. it wasn't a big deal, but not "plug and play".

ironically, the frames are made right here near me at a vendor i use.

I found sitting in the seat a must. Ended up with a Sparco Evo II. Little pricy though!

agreed. nobody's butt and back is the same. buying a seat without sitting in it first is a recipe for regret

Agreed, that's why I was leaning toward a Sparco Evo or Sport 2000, because I've already "test sat" these. The Beard sounds like it's worth following up on, though. I'll give them a call, and see if there's a way I could find one to sit in. I have an adapter Pablo sold me, so hopefully this will at least give me a good starting point.

I like Cobra seats. I have a kevlar Cobra Evolution Pro for the driver and cheaper steel framed Cobra Monaco for an occasional passenger seat.

Have you considered a Halo seat?

Already bought a Sparco Evo. I'd sat in one before, and found it to fit me well. Fortunately, the one I ordered fits me very well, too. I got a good deal on it, and they're commonly used in 944s, so I figured it was a decent choice for a beginner like me.

What are the rules for seat certification and age in the category you are running in. Also, will the car be used on the road and does the seat need to comply with these rules as well?

I have a Velo seat, which is road legal over here and FIA approved. It also comes in different widths, including XL for wide arses like me.

I looked into that awhile ago, but don't remember the exact age limit - I think it's something like five years. Seats older than that need to add a brace. Since it may be several years before I race competitively, it's kind of irrelevant anyway. And yes, it will be used on the street for awhile, but I'm not aware of any laws related to seats. I would think that a seat that limits side visibility may be problematic in the eyes of the law, but the Evo isn't a halo type seat, so I don't think I'll have any issues with that, either.

Flash, what Beard seat did you install into your coupe? I'm looking at Super-T1 for my car.... Currently has original grey leather in perfect shape but to small for me at the track. Ok for around town.

Do you have any pictures of these installed in your car?

lol - first off, i would never own a hardtop. i'm a ragtop man through and through. they make for better race cars too.

as for the seat model, at the time, i'm not sure they made more than 1. it looked a lot like the ultra though. pretty danged comfy, and held me securely in place. had a rear brace stub built in, so it was easy to secure to the roll bar.

Thanks for the quick response ... Sorry for the coupe statement... I do enjoy open driving. I have a couple Mercedes SLs.

But back to my new toy... I'm still trying to understand all the upgrades... Chip, suspension, exhaust etc. I do have a spreadsheet that has all maintenance and upgrades per owner. Would like to post it here on the forum for the experts to review and make recommendations good or bad? So far plan is to replace seats, replace 5 point harness(expired), new steering wheel, quick release.

And of course the forums recommendations!

[/quote]Well apart from Aero, torsional rigidity, weight and safety I might agree with you. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rock.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
