Front A-arm balljoint rebuilt kit
#1

Hi there,

I need rebuilt A-arm ball joint because of worn out.

And,I found several ball joint rebuilt kit in the web;

1.KLA industries

http://www.klaindustries.net/balljoints/balljnt.htm

2.SSI performance

http://www.ssiauto.com/product_info.php/cP.../products_id/28

3.Rennbay

http://www.rennbay.com/ball-joint-rebuild-...17a8b4386cdbe87

The question is;

A) Which product is the best?

Im interested in SSIs. because the bushing is made of metal.

B)Can I rebuilt my '93 968 A-arm?

I red some article,it was said that there are two type of A-arm.

one is OK,the other is not possible to rebuilt.

Is that true?

Any suggestion is welcome.

regards,Ken

I haven't done it myself, but I know Rennbay has a good reputation and is quick to help out anybody with install issues over the phone. There track ball joint uses CNC milled aluminum bronze for the bushings.

Thank you. banditsc,

Well,is the CNC milled aluminum bronze good for street use?

I drive almost on the street, not so flat in Japan.

If you call up Travis over there at Rennbay or shoot him an email he could probably tell you the best kit to use. Their very knowledable of the kits as they make all there own stuff in house.

FWIW, I have an unused Rennbay BJ kit I'd love to find a new home for. My '94 does not have the replaceable joints.

Look at the underside of the BJ for the retainer clip. You have to scrape away the epoxy to see the clip (easy to see in the online instructions posted by the various suppliers). If the clip is there, it's a removable BJ. If no retainer clip, like mine, then the BJ was permanently sealed into the arm.

Thanks a lot,Tom.

I will check my ball joints on this weekend.

well,I think b/j suplliers should mention it.

anyway,if not rebuiltable one,I drill them and remove all parts of b/j and install full kit, kinda renbay sell.what do you think of this idea? I will ask them.

On my 951 I was able to rebuild the front control arms with a ball joint kit from SSI, which used to be the only supplier in the US with the metal bushings. Now Rennbay has them also.

However, while changing the oil on my friend's 968 I noticed his control arms were the sealed kind with no retainer clip to remove.

I knew all most 968 arm were not replaceable.

So,I bought 944 arm in the ebay.

and now im going to remove inner steel.

there are several way to do.

1.using hacksaw.

2.just take away by plier.(if very lucky)

3.use touch or boil arm(enlarge almi-arm)

which way is the best?

You should be able to get the inner circlip out with a vise, brass punch and hammer approach. However, I will caution you to preserve the factory circlip unless you have an identical replacement, as they're considerably stronger than the circlips in the rebuild kits.
