AC brief noise
#1

while driving yesterday early morning I turned on the AC and heard a squeal for about 2 or 3 seconds. since it stopped right away, I ljust eft the AC on for a few minutes .. then I kept turning the AC off and on multiple times during a 30 minute drive, I even stopped and idled the car switcing the AC back and forth, but never heard any noise again. unfortunately, it was cold outside and I could not tell the difference between the air temp coming in with the AC on or off, so not sure how to figure out if the compressor was working ?

what could the noise have been ? if it had continued I would have thought a bearing had gone bad in the AC ( pulley ? ) or the belt slipping for a second with the new load on, but since it stopped, and never came back on after many on/off switching might it have been just a temporarily "frozen" pulley that once loosened it works ok ?

btw, the last time I had the AC on and working just fine ( no noise at all, air as cold as ever ) was about three weeks ago. since then it's been off until yesterday

belt slip - your belt likely just stretched a bit - it happens - have it adjusted - make sure they loosen the mounting bolts first, and then retighten

I have been running the AC, with the heater on, to defrost the front window. My cab has a real problem with fogging up the windows when it rains during the winter months. In newer cars the defrost function turns on the compressor as it pulls moisture out of the air.
