Does anyone know where to get the proper sized pins for the trunk relay to be plugged into the factory harness?

[quote name='SILVY968' post='62852' date='Nov 8 2008, 12:36 PM']Dave,

Just got back from the SEMA show where I talked to BULLDOG. The have a distributor in Canada. I am on the list to get info about who the retailers are. When I get it I'll post it so that other guys can locate the remote outside of the US.

I got impatient and ordered it direct from the web site. There goes 20.00 in shipping but what the heck. I have the car in pieces for the winter and would like to button every thing up (as soon as the RSB chip gets here) as I don't want to rip up the carpet any more than I have to.

Gotta say "you guys rock!" And that's pretty scary languarge from a 50 year old.

Installed my Bulldog 1702 today with the DIY and the extras to make the trunk lock work without running a wire to the rear (which I had already done ahead of time) and the turn signals flash. All went great and it's a hoot now to push the buttons and watch the pretty lights!

I can hardly wait or spring to pull up next to the only other PCA member in my region with a 968 and say "Hey Brad, what do ya think about this, flash lock, pop trunk"

GRIN!

I am a little late in jumping in on this upgrade, but better late than never.
Anyway, I have just purchased a remote keyless entry system from RightClick: http://www.rclick.co.uk/ . I have receive the unit and HU49 key blanks. these blanks, I believe and correct me if I am wrong, are the closest blanks to the one's required on our 968s. I used my Dremel with a standard cutting wheel to modify them so they can be used by our cars. It was simple as creating an channel on both sides of they key. I will post pictures shortly.

My questions regarding the relay's that, in the past, were supplied by Geinmann. Can anyone provide me with the specifics, the amps etc? I am confused, as I do not understand exactly what they do? My limited understanding is that they decrease the amps going to the trunk switch so it doesn't get fried? Also, I would like to know how many are needed? 1 for the Trunk pop. I read in previous post that I can get the dual pole at Radio Shack, but do I require more than these 2?

TIA!

Miles

I just went to the local supplier and picked 3 basic Bosch 12V replays from the bin. There is not much power going though them but you need a buffer from the control logic to the turn signals and trunk as the logic doesnt supply enough current. I had to buy 3 as they didn't have DPST in stock at the time otherwise you could have used only 2 relays - 1 DPST and 1 SPST.

the one i have was supplied by dave - he tends to get a lot of things from Parts Express, and i think this came from there - the markings on it are:

XPRESS
RL-5X
30A
14VDC
DC 12V

Miles, if you get the "trunk pop" to work with the RClick, please post it here. I have got the lock unlock to work, but the trunk feed gives a +positive pulse and not a -negative pulse, so i never got it to work.
I did read somewhere that with the +positive pulse you don't need a relay at the rear, but I've not had time to try again.

I am currently out of town but hopefully will be able to start on this project this weekend. I'll keep you posted

I have ordered relays from Parts Express: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/pshowdetl....tnumber=330-070
They are pretty reasonable so I ordered 3 and plugs too

I have just returned from vacation and found my relays from Parts Express were delivered. I started with the trunk pop feature. There are 3 wires from the trunk switch Red(+), White (-) and Brown (gnd). First I tried to directly connect the trunk pop wire from the unit to the positive and then the negative wire and neither worked? I then started to try to included the relay...The closest I got to making it work so far is that when I connected it, it continuously fired over and over.

Also, I have a picture of the HU40 key modification, but I have forgotten how to upload an attachment

More to come

I made the trunk pop! Use this info at your own risk! The unit that i purchased from RightClick is the KE60W. The PINK output wire from the main unit to the trunk is a GROUND! This, I connected to the 86 lead. The 85 and 87 were both connected to the car's RED wire. The 30 lead was connected to the car's White/Blue wire. The car's Brown wire was reconnected to the Trunk Switch's Brown wire. The 87a was not used. The Red wire from the Trunk Switch was grounded. The White wire from the Trunk's switch was connect to the wire that connects to 86. I can't seem to figure out how to post pictures but I think they would help a great deal. I'll keep working on that too.

Now that I have this out of the way I will start on the rest tomorrow

Does anyone have the specifics on tapping into the parking lights? It doesn't matter wether it is in the footwell or trunk/hatch area as long as someone lets me know exactly what wires they are. Did I miss it somewhere?

TIA

Miles, I can't help with the parking lights as I only went for the indicators.
Thanks for the info on the trunk pop, I'l give it a go this weekend.
I did blow some fuses on my first attempt and was convinced that the pink gave a positive pulse, but will try the same set up as you succeeded with.

The colour codes are in the Bulldog DIY but you'll have to search forum for it. That's what I used and all was correct as mine works great.

Hey Dave,
Thanks for the info! I must be a little slow/lazy but can you give me a link to find the bulldog DIY info?
TIA
Miles
ps Pinball please read my post again as I made minor correction(edit) to the Trunk/key wiring. The Relay wiring is unchanged. If you have any additional questions just let me know! If you get it to work please let us know that too!

So I have finished the install: Doors lock and unlock and trunk pops....I left it at that...the lights have not flashed for 16 years so I figured it could stay that way. Thanks again to all those who helped with this DIY!!!

Regards,

MIles
