Keyless Entry System DIY
#61

It works great, I just need to sort the turn signals and the trunk pop.

Turning the key blanks to blades was a pain, but if you take your time it's well worth it.

Right click have been very helpful with any questions and they have a support site as well.

I guess they don't have blanks for our cars? What about a round Porsche emblem for the front side of the fab?

I had to shop around for the right blanks, but they are the same as some VW's or Audi's so not a problem.

Right click have the round emblems and will supply extras at a small cost.

Once I've got everything working I'll post more detail.

Having the "flip" key is such a bonus and no more holes in trouser pockets!

Just ordered the RightClick fob. It'll be nice - as I'm too use to my BMWs key solution.

OK, Well I now have the turn signals working on lock and unlock. Brown wires from the unit to Black/Brown and Green from the Alarm unit (Black connector). As for the trunk pop, 3hrs of messing around and I can't get it to work from the remote If anyone else has the rightclick unit and gets it to work, please let me know.

Pinball, were you able to figure out the wiring??? I've been watching this thread and saving my pennies in anicipation of making my purchase but now I'm starting to have reservations. What are your thoughts about the system/wiring/FOB/etc.? Should I jump in or hold off a little longer? Thanks!

The fob works fine and is ood value for money.

The lock unlock wiring was easy and just as the included wiring diagram stated and I used the "tails" adjacent to the alarm brain.

The turn signal colours were wrong and need to be as my previous post, but no relay is required. So far I can't get the trunk pop to work, but some posts on the site would lead me to believe that this isn't such a bad thing.

I did have to buy key blanks seperately and turn them into blades, but this was no big deal.

Overall I'm very happy. I have a remote with a flip out key and the turn signals flash when I lock and unlock and the price was very competitive.

I'm sure there are better systems out there, but this one suits me.

Where did you look for the key blanks & where did you have to get them cut? A locksmith or just the local hardware store?

Thx.

I bought a couple of blanks from ebay HERE and then had them cut in a local shop. Turning them into blades I did myself with a "dremel" Take your time, it would be easy to mess them up.

Only go for blanks that have just a small hole at the top, or the blade will end up too short.

The VW blanks were half the price of Porsche ones.

What I forgot earlier is, a big thank you for all those who have already posted on this thread. Their information made the process quite straightforward, but without them, I may not have been brave enough to try it.

I went to my local Locksmith today. He looked at my current ignition key and immediately said 70s VW key. I showed him what I was trying to get to, he called his supplier and the supplier said he could make the flipper blanks needed but only in lots of 100 or maybe possibly 50 key minimum. I just got the ILCO 78VB's and he quickly cut two for me. for $8. Mentioned the dremel idea - yeah that would work. He also suggested another ath of a machinist but that route would probably a bit of cash. I'll just give the dremel method a go & if unsuccessful go the machinist route as this being a blue collar town I shouldn't have much difficulty locating someone. Thanks for the guidance.

Has anyone sourced Bulldog 1702's in Canada? Hate to order a 50.00 item from the US because customs asks you to bend over and they take, take, take. Don't even get me started on UPS!

Yea, no Pep Boys here and eBay.ca only comes up with Bulldog remote starter kits which I don't want. My car is resting for the winter now so hopefully our $ goes back up before too long. I have the DME apart waiting for the ($ to rise) RSBarn chip and want to put the keyless entry in before I re-assemble the passenger floor.

I have friends in Long Beach so maybe I'll get them to send me one up as a personal parcel; the feds leave those alone for the most part unless it says "Greetings from Afganistan!"

Find a buddy in the US and post it to you. Cheap USPS and no duty crap.

If you do not know anyone in the lower 48, I will do it for you.

Contact the Seattle, WA store and if they have one I will get it for you and post it to you. You can PAYPAL me for the costs.

Tks for the offer. I looked on PepBoys web site but they didn't list the Bulldog. I am assuming they are one of those companies where you have to actually go there and only show the major tuff on their web site. I'll check with my friends in Long Beach and if it's terribly inconvenient for them to get to a PepBoys I'll take you up on your generous offer.

Dave,

Just got back from the SEMA show where I talked to BULLDOG. The have a distributor in Canada. I am on the list to get info about who the retailers are. When I get it I'll post it so that other guys can locate the remote outside of the US.
