Pinion noise?
#1

I was looking on Youtube for any new 968 videos, and I came across this one:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=QJmzzP4yGm4

This guy really throws the car around at Spa Francorchamps, but what I noticed was some sort of whine throughout the video, especially at high speeds. Is that what a bad pinion bearing sounds like? Or is that tire noise?

When I'm pushing 4th gear, I do get a faint whine myself, but it's MUCH higher pitched. Thoughts? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I don't think that's pinion noise, and I've experienced it firsthand. Just noise-noise, I'd guess.

Wow: YouTube 968 videos! I never would have thought of it!

Speaking of noise:

check your belts there, buddy!

Note the clear turn indicators...?

Clear indicators on this car too: a cute little ditty-

yeah, that first video is kind of... odd. The guy just sits there in a super tight car port revving the engine, then takes forever to pull out. And I take it belts aren't suppose to be that loud? Maybe they came through more because of the recording equipment used. Mine aren't any louder than as heard on this video (near the end Mike Rayner pulls up) http://www.renalicious.com/Images/porsche/...%20Aquarium.avi

That was from the little p-car meet we did last august <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

As for that second video, I wish the music was a bit quieter, and the car noises a bit louder <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Nope, no pinion bearing noise there... just winding her out (except for the two missed shifts when he was dicing with that white Porsche!)

Interesting that you can hear the Shifter "clunk" thru the gears... nothing subtle about our six speeds! Now, if he got some driving lessons....well, who knows???
