Just need to vent a little....
#1

Sick of Rennlist. I sent a message to mod of the 968 subforum and asked that my membership be cancelled. Can't take the BS anymore.

I specifically enjoy Rennlist for the 993, 928 and Off Topis subforums. I read the 968 subforum, but limit my posting. I also peruse the member-to-member for sale ads. I'll miss that. Hopefully I'll still be able to get my 993 fix.

Not trying to preach or start any flame wars. Just getting it off my chest as I consider myself a bit of the "old guard" having been around since 968.net.

That is all.

Going to fridge for a beer.

May your weekend be fruitful and fulfilling (my cab should be coming home soon! WOOHOO!)!

Feel the same here and that comment about competition and not being able to help a member in the spirit of community is just disgusting. Last I knew were all here to help one another, not to compete against another. There are clearly moderators with personal gripes that the Rennlist/IB Management don't seem to care about. I have sent a couple emails off to Rennlist and IB Management.

For anyone interested, do with it what you want..

I've also been around since 968.net, although i've kept my posting to a minimum and just watched the flame wars.

The mod team over at RL is a little over the top to say the least. A lot of emphasis on the word "Sponsor", its almost comical. He even posted up a new sticky thread indirectly stating you will be banned if you show your support for these forums(their direct competitor-i was not aware that this was a competition, or that one had to take sides) or our sponsors.

The sticky thread is precisely the reason I asked for my membership to be terminated. Total BS.

To the 968Forums community- I am not trying to insite (or incite?) a riot against Rennlist. On the contrary, I value many of the groups over there- I feel like I could easily go buy a 993 and inherently know so much about it simply because of that group of guys- I have learned a lot, some of which I was able to use with my 968. Same goes for a 928. So I am angry regarding the one particular sector. Like I listed in the subject- just venting.

Over and out.

P.S. Fox - looking forward to meeting you and everyone else at Hershey!

I have not had any experience over at Rennlist but I can understand where you're coming from via experiences with other car forums. I really like the people here on this forum. You guys are some of the greatest.

Not to derail my own thread, but how's the job search going? What have you been doing to keep yourself occupied (I know it's only been a couple of days since you posted...)? Have you looked into any volunteering things or internships?

Good luck and keep pounding the pavement!

Hi Jim...Thanks for asking...I found a few more job leads...but you know, I realized that I haven't really done everything I wanted. Going fishing next week. Found a couple of local lakes that are being stocked for the next 3 weeks with some rainbow trout. I plan to catch and release. But haven't been fishing in several years. So I'm not completely done playing. I will post to let you guys know how my fishing day went.

Effective immediately 968 forums will no longer allow discussion of fluffernutter in any way.

The use of all ampersands (&) will not be tolerated. "Use an ampersand you will be banned"

I'm really not sure whether to laugh or cry. Isn't theirs the same site that called our own lovable imp a forumsJihadist or something?

All joking aside, any sincere intellecual discussion of modifying a 968 would have to include the modifications offered by RS Barn and Design1Racing. Buy them or don't, your choice. To leave them out specifically is like allowing discussion of Mercedes but not AMG, it rings very hollow.

So, please, come here and discuss 968s freely. If you find a way to make my car better, faster, nimbler, or shinier I want to know about it and I don't care who makes the product. (if you do make that product, please keep us on the air by supporting us).

Regards,

Jay

i've really been trying to stay out of this one, and have been watching from the sidelines - i am not surprised though at the turn of events - there has been an ongoing campaign by primarily two people - i am flattered that they expend so much time and effort on our behalf - i get a good chuckle at every shot taken, and really should give a big "thank you" - it only causes people to come here to find out what all the fuss is about - we can't pay for advertising like that

the ironic part is that i would never have gotten into making stuff for this car at all if it were not for the resident "experts" saying that there was nothing to be done, that porsche did everything that could be done, and that no gains were to be had - well, we all know how wrong that was - i only stepped up and made stuff because nobody else did, or what was out there was not up to the standards i expected and i thought i could do better - as much fun as it has been, i would have much preferred to have been able to simply buy stuff, without going into developing things myself

pete is much the same way - to his credit he has tested countless products, and carefully selects those that work best, without regard to who makes it - he continues to sell things from multiple manufacturers that compete with each other (as if there really is any competition in the 968 market as it is so small) - he continues to develop new things for the cars too - all at his own expense - to discount someone who goes to that much trouble is truly shortsighted

be prepared though that the few who cannot see their way clear to realize that this is the best 968 site around will always shout otherwise at the top of their lungs and applaud each other, for lack of anyone else paying attention - as time goes on though, it will become the sound of one hand clapping - sooner or later the misbehaving child gets sent to his room

none of us here want anything but what is best for our cars, regardless of who makes it - as long as whatever it is works, we welcome all new vendors and their products

it is truly sad that a few people have ruined for so many people a great resource like rennlist - that is the third site they have chased people away from - maybe they should start their own site - oh wait - they already tried that didn't they?

so yes, come here and enjoy the freedom of speech not afforded the members over there - thanks to the membership for everything they have done to help to make this such a great place

well, i'm off now to prepare for all the 968s coming over today to hang out and enjoy the best parts of owning one of these cars, the owners themselves sharing their experiences and interests and generally just having a good time

After being asked for proof, i posted up some dyno sheets. This caused a Mod to PM me and accuse me of shilling..

Just finished a long convo with him via pm.

Right they pull the he isn't a sponsor and mentioning shops or products of non vendors is not allowed since it detracts from paying vendors. The only problem is there are no paying vendors that deal with the 968's. And you can't just mention a part from someone, not trying to hype it or say buy it, just mentioning it's installed on your car is not prohibited. Maybe RSBarn will be a sponsor over there one of these days (Hint Hint).. I know Internet Brands wouldn't turn down the money and the moderators have no say in the sponsors.

Edit: I have now been warned of being banned, I gave props to RSBarn for the impressive numbers on the Dyno sheet posted, and that was apparently not allowed.

Amazing. Just recieved another warning.

Reason given: Non-Sponsor Business/Shilling for RS Barn.

If anyone is interested in my PM convo, i have it saved. These guys are something else.

If I may, as a addicted lurker and infrequent poster on this site and Rennlist:

To take jabs at the mods for doing a thankless job is not really fair. Most of the policys that are being questioned have always been in place but now that IB is the new owner they might be more strictly enforced.

As for over bearing personalities on Rennlist and this site, those are fair game.

I use both of the 968 sites to glean knowledge of product and engineering development.

And for whats its worth I would love to see RS BARN become a sponser on Rennlist. As it was said earlier there are very few companies that are willing to spend time and money for development of anything 968.

Just my opinion.

Cheers, Joel

Joel,

My biggest issue with this is the fact that the moderators arnt nearly as strict in the other forums. I am seeing this only in the 968 forum on RL. 968forums.com is viewed as a competitor (why is this even a competition?).

Never on any forum have i been threatened for mentioning a tuner/vender (who isnt a sponsor) prior to this.

The 968 community is a small one. i was asked by nay sayers to post up dyno sheets. Naturally people will ask questions. I cant speak of my car without the mention of RS Barn or Pete as he and his products were heavily involved in the final outcome. In other words, i am not allowed to share my pride and joy with fellow 968 owners in RL without fear of being banned.

As i've told the moderator who pm'd me. I'll gladly leave and delete my posts if my knowledge and experiance is not welcome on RL. Its sad, because it wouldnt be the opinion of the community; but rather the opinion of a select few dictators.

Cheers.

I hear ya, but due to the results of a recent test that I conducted I find that not be be true.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to test the tolerance level in one of the other sub forums. I went into a forum and placed some heavily charged and controversial posts.

The findings of that test: 2 -2 point infractions and several warnings from mods in a 72 hour period. This sub-forum has many hundreds daily posters but they were able to pick out my posts. I felt that they were very even handed.

This was not a scientific test but answered my question.

Gotta go, heading down to the beach for a St. Pats parade.

Cheers, Joel

What this moderator is actually not within some of the written rules of rennlist and the moderator that is over all of them didn't know that he was making blanked post that other forums are banned and what not. I actually posted with the guidelines that the main moderator said was acceptable and the 968 moderator flagged me.

Jim I remember seeing you back on 968.net when everyone got along fine and wonder why you and some of the other folks have decided to pile onto this 968 gang war instead of just letting it fizzle. Behavior like yours and Jay's [who posted the most disgusting personal attack I've ever seen on a Porsche technical forum recently] has influenced some of the new members like Fox944 and Smokiemon into acting like children because they think it's the cool thing to do. It's like monkey see - monkey do and makes the whole situation worse! There should only be 3 or 4 people at the root of all this w/ personal issues too complicated to really fix at this point, but the rest of us could get on w/ our lives since this has been going on for 5+ years now! Lord knows that if I met any of you in person there would be nothing but kind words and fun 968 stories exchanged so what's the deal??

And some of you can say what you want but I don't think it's coincidence that immediately after the events of a few weeks ago - when a certain Rennlist topic was closed - that Fox944 began posting on Rennlist and taking every opportunity to promote 968forums and RS Barn. I don't think he had even posted on Rennlist before but now suddently he's got a hundred posts?!? And of course smokiemon only posts over there when he can take a shot at someone which I pm'd him about out of respect to keep it private but he wants to keep doing it so, whatever...

All you guys are fully aware of what you're trying to do so don't ACT like you're being overly moderated at Rennlist for 'just talking about 968s' because it takes an ignorant soul at this point not to detect the ulterior motives that some of you folks are looking to fulfill with your 'posts'. I don't see the Rennlist folks coming over here and redirecting traffic or pitching sponsor X on a daily basis. Oh but that can't happen here at 968forums because it's so well moderated, and when moderators shut down the childish behavior over at Rennlist then you come back here and complain about being mistreated?? Please...mr. pot, meet mr. kettle! This is all so childish - ICK! I need a shower after this post.

Full disclosure: I will probably buy an RS Barn cat-back exhaust at some point when I have some extra $ and desire to be really competitive in SCCA/PCA stock class autocross because I like its sound and light weight. I also have met Bob, Eric, Raj, Damian, and post here on 968forums...but I've been on Rennlist a lot longer and just prefer posting there most of the time.

EDIT: Speaking of moderation, let's see how long before this post gets deleted. Oh yeah...and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

to clear up some of your confusion,

I am not a new member and was a member of 968.net many years ago. I just never posted much....same with rennlist. I had my own Agenda. And that was to build the car i have today....which i dont think i will ever finish.

I have a hundred posts on rennlist due to the fact that i have been conversing with people as of late. People accuse me of something or ask me a question...if i dont respond, i get labled....Because i did respond....i get labled. Damned if i do, damned if i dont...a catch 22, dont you think? I'm not here or there to promote anyone or anything other then myself. However, i will gladly promote those who have made it possible for me achieve my goals. I feel it is very benneficial to the 968 community as a whole. i'd like to see more modified cars. I like to share my experience with others.

Edit: i posted on RL asking a few questions. I made a mention of D1 in reference to a new SS kit, and your buddy's decided to bash their product. I support their product due to positive experiences with all their product. Don't make it out as if im the bad guy, or as if i went there to promote RS Barn. I was attacked. Naturally, i will both defend myself as well as anything i support.
