a little crazed this week
#1

we had been planning on getting a new dog to keep Kismet (Kizzy) our bernese mountain dog happy and young, as she is now pushing 8. we have been looking for about a year, but had not found the right parents.

then a litter popped up in grass valley, so we booked flights to go check them out. after 2 weeks of "interviewing" with the breeder, answering an extremely long questionnaire, giving references, and a laundry list of control freak issues, we decided that the breeder turned out to be nuts. she was trying to require ridiculous contractual points, like post adoption visits, and obedience training (i train dogs myself) to which she is not legally entitled, so we blew her off. plane tickets wasted. time blown. wife very unhappy.

ironically, i had my wife go online to poke around for a different litter. the local breeder, whom we met at a dog show in long beach last year, had a litter on the ground. done deal. so, i have been crazily busy puppy proofing the house, house-breaking the puppy, and generally being run ragged between all the projects, and both of the dogs. she has been great, and we feel like the stars were just aligned to bring her to us. it was definitely a lot easier than the other breeder.

that is twice now that we have gotten a dog based on things just falling into place. hence their names.

here is Kader (prounounced Kadesh) which means "destiny" in turkish. we call her Katy.

completely disinterested, regardless of how much katy tries to get her to pay attention to her

that should change in a week or so. it's pretty normal.

Great looking dogs!

My wife is a pet food distributor in our area and if you lived in her distribution territory, would LOVE to have you as customers! She loves customers with "larger" dogs (as compared to the 3 pound "teacup" Yorkie my daughter owns!). <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

I sympathize with your experience with insane breeders. Several years ago I was looking for a good barn cat, both to keep the barn clear of chipmunks and mice, and to keep me company while I worked.

Now, mind you, this cat had two elevated beds, carpeted towers, more toys than my kids, his own auto-feeders and heated water bowls, his own entry door, and a light and radio kept on for him 24x7. The barn is double-insulated, ceiling-fanned, and has its own furnace. This cat had it good.

But most of the "adoption agencies" I visited tried to make me feel like Satan for wanting a cat that I would "let outdoors". I finally ended up acquiring a cat from an older couple down the street who had barn cats with kittens, and it was the best darned cat I ever had.

lol - yeah - we figure it costs about $2 a day to feed these guys

i get wanting to make sure the dog had a good home, but one look at our existing one would tell them that

It' s been only a couple of days but Bob has already shaved the puppy to improve the aerodynamics, fitted her with newly designed D1 paw grip pads so she can pull close to 1 g while turning corners in the house, a weight reduction program is not that far off, and just give it another month before the barking will likely have a graphic equalizer quality to it....

Now that's a good one but should she sign up for the supercharger?

definitely enough exhaust going on. i'm not sure the food stops to be digested before it comes flying out.

this is only day 3 and i'm wiped. way too much going on all at the same time. i am quite challenged in time management right now. it's very hard to get anything done when i have to take the dog out every hour. i'm on an aggressive house-breaking regime, and this has to be done. everything else is taking a back seat right now. i'm getting stuff done, but it is a very real challenge.

Kizzy is a well trained dog. I was amazed at her/his responsiveness. Sorry I don't remember the gender Bob. So keep up the good work it will be worth it in the end!

How old is the puppy? I realize she's a very large breed, but she looks pretty stout. Beautiful pup - dogs are the greatest, aren't they? One of my favorite bumper stickers of all time is a prayer that says "Lord, let me become the person my dog thinks I am!"
