we had been planning on getting a new dog to keep Kismet (Kizzy) our bernese mountain dog happy and young, as she is now pushing 8. we have been looking for about a year, but had not found the right parents.
then a litter popped up in grass valley, so we booked flights to go check them out. after 2 weeks of "interviewing" with the breeder, answering an extremely long questionnaire, giving references, and a laundry list of control freak issues, we decided that the breeder turned out to be nuts. she was trying to require ridiculous contractual points, like post adoption visits, and obedience training (i train dogs myself) to which she is not legally entitled, so we blew her off. plane tickets wasted. time blown. wife very unhappy.
ironically, i had my wife go online to poke around for a different litter. the local breeder, whom we met at a dog show in long beach last year, had a litter on the ground. done deal. so, i have been crazily busy puppy proofing the house, house-breaking the puppy, and generally being run ragged between all the projects, and both of the dogs. she has been great, and we feel like the stars were just aligned to bring her to us. it was definitely a lot easier than the other breeder.
that is twice now that we have gotten a dog based on things just falling into place. hence their names.
here is Kader (prounounced Kadesh) which means "destiny" in turkish. we call her Katy.
