Cam Replacement
#1

My engine is out of the car and in pieces at the mechanics. I need to replace the cams due to sprocket teeth wear (car has 125,000km on it). I have asked Pete from RSBarn for core pricing to determine the economics of shipping my cams back to the USA. What other options are out there (apart from new - $1,000 each).

Also, while the engine is apart and given it is going to have a supercharger bolted up to it upon re-assembly - what experience has anyone had with stronger head bolts or any other upgrades that should go back into the engine as it is assembled.

Look forward to hearing from everyone's collective wisdom.

Thanks,

Craig

Craig - I sent my cams to RSBarn a few months ago to have a new set of teeth welded to the original cams. That was the only solution that I found, other than going with a new set at $2,000. While I only needed one cam, both were redone as the cams must remain as a set. Hope this helps - I would recommed them to do the job.

For what it's worth, my engine is about to become pieces in readyness for the SC. I am changing to forged con rods, bottom bearings, rings, widefire gasket, thermal intake gasket, variocam chain/guides, harmonic balancer, TB tensioner, injector seals, thermostat, pan gasket, RSB catback and whatever the head needs upon inspection. My cams are wonderful at 78K.

Misc stuff cuz it's on a lift - SS brake lines, clutch slave, tranny/brake fluids.

RS Barn will give you outstanding service and advice. Max and Pete work on these cars every day. They've seen it all. I have not had my cams done, but you will be in good hands.

Craig,

This will not help but I understand your pain.

Same problem, same klms, same mechanic, same cost.

Car fixed and never ran better.

HI,

I have Petes cams in my car and they are still in perfect condition 2 years later, I just inspected them and make it a point to inspect once a year.
