[968Oz]

In the 30 years of driving before I got my 968 I can recall being in perhaps one motor vehicle accident in my car and a couple on my bike. In the 20 months since I bought the 968 it has been hit 3 times. Once, rear-ended by a very apologetic driver who said after the incident "The last word you want to see when you look up after hitting another car is 'Porsche'" [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]. Only minor damage to rear bumper cover that needed a respray to repair some cracks anyway, so worked out well.
Second incident a rabbit ran into me, went through the front grill, bent bumper and ruined the paint and somehow ripped the lining in wheel arch. Still, also worked out well because my local paint shop managed to get the front bumper cover and the plastic undertrays replaced by the insurance company. The bumper was sagging and the ray under the bumper was cracked, so I was happy.
I Got the car back a week ago, have driven it 3 times and while sitting in the inside lane at the lights someone decided to see if my wing mirror was removable and in the meantime scraped my door and front fender. The panels aren't seriously damaged, just paint scrapes, and their insurance will cover, it but I've seen enough of Paint and Custom's workshop to last me a while. Counting some minor work I had done and these accidents I estimate the car has spent at least 6 weeks in the shop and the cost of would be about $6.5K!! Mostly covered by insurance companies thankfully.

i went through the same thing - i was nailed 3 times in the first year

the first time was by a 70 year old preacher out of georgia, just moved to los angeles, and was reaching over to pick up his (you guessed it) cell phone - rear ended me

then i got backed up over by a girl in a jeep liberty - no note - she was still parked, so we got her

then i got backed up over by an suv of unknown model - no note - totaled front end sheet metal

Knock on wood, the 968 has been fortunate so far, but one of my 944s was totaled by a Ford Taurus driver who rear ended it because he was simply too old and hit the gas instead of the brake as he was approaching the red light where I was stopped, one of my MBZs was also totaled from a rear end collision but this time while it was parked on the street at night, hit by a drunk driver ( a lady, who showed up the next morning and owned up to what she did ) and the other MBZ was totaled as well, not surprisingly rear ended ( go figure [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif[/img] ) by a pick up truck on the freeway ( the imbecile was texting ). Yet, it seems I still haven't learned my lesson, which would be : never drive another MBZ or a Porsche, WHILE YOU'RE IN FRONT OF ANYONE ELSE [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif[/img]

At least, I walked out of some pretty severe hits without a scratch, so maybe the MBZs and Porsches are not that bad after all..

Has the 968 since july, $1500 due to a rear end collision in october. Other cars, no accidents in over 5 years.

Only accident is my 1 1/2 year old daughter whacking the hood with a plastic beach toy shovel. "Porsche car!", she says. Nice little dimple, but you can't see it unless you really look for it. Could have been worse, though. Just a few minutes earlier I took my sand wedge away from her.

I know how you feel. I don't get to take it out that often but when I do it seems like a magnet. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img] I took it out for the Columbus Day parade to show it off and got hit by an 85 year old woman a block from my house. She was looking right through me. It was a slow motion accident which I couldn't react quick enough to back up away from her. I was at a stop sign when she decided to turn and cross over and hit my front end [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif[/img] She told me and the cops she had no idea what happened [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif[/img] It's been a magnet for cops as well...... I think they just want to see what kind of car. Talked myself out of two tickets already........... [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]

For years I've been convinced that my 968 is cursed. I've had the car 5 years and here is a list of how many times its been smacked, all by other people: hit 3 times in 4 years in the passenger rear by people in trucks and SUVs backing up and not paying attention, had a motorcycle fall over and damage the driver front fender, clipped in the front bumper by a SUV, hit by an old woman in the rear bumper while backing out, and 2 other minor damages to the front and back bumper plastic by people backing out that I never saw (happened while I was away from the car). Currently its down due to the front spoiler getting hung up on some rebar that was sticking up out of a curb.



Before this car, I've had 3 others over a span of 10 years none of them were ever hit.



I'd say magnet for sure!

I've been fortunate enough that in ten plus years and several hundred thousand miles of driving P cars I've never been involved in an accident with one. Altough I've certainly picked up my fair share of rock chips/door dings and some of the other vehicles I've owned haven't been as lucky.

i have replaced two windshields in the last ten years, so a bit of a highway "rock magnet" for me..no matter how hard I try to avoid staying anyway from the trucks in front of me

Mine has been initially self inflicted, but now, it has been by mechanics. Two dents in the good from closing it on spammers left on the fuel rail cover, ripples on the front fenders from when the 928 Motorsports supercharger went in (elbows or just leaning on it), etc. the whole front end needs re doing.

Mine's been hit three times in the three years I've owned it. Rear ended at a red light; rear ended in stop-and-go traffic; and it's currently in the shop because the front driver's side fender got clipped by a van trying to park in the space in front of where my 968 was parked.

i've been rear-ended by a 76 year old man reaching to answer his cell phone, clipped by a 17 year old kit with no license, and had a fender bashed by a tow truck driver who wasn't paying attention when he was trying to get my car up on the truck



after a complete repaint, stripping the car down to factory prep, i towed it backwards to denver for an event and picked up a couple dozen paint chips from the road construction all the way through utah.



then there is the myriad of chips and dings i have put in the car



oh well - it's just a car

Have fortunately not been involved in an accident with the 968, but I am paranoid where I park. The wife usually tells me to drop her off and meet up inside, since she is tired of me driving around until I find the PERFECT parking space.

That's not paranoid that's prudent! I made us walk a half a mile up a hill tonite because of the safe spot I found! Then being on a roll I refused about 5 spots when we were pulling into a place for dinner until I found the right one!

Yikes, I'm very afraid to take the 968 out. I do go out of my way to find a parking space away from other cars. I've had one accident with the 968. I parked on the street in front of my house, perpendicular to a driveway and a car backed into my driver;s side door. However, my wife was in an accident in our Audi after the first 6 months and almost totaled it.
