I do not recall the price off-hand, but my research pointed me to the actual Porsche parts (they lasted 12+ years the first time around). I had seen some varying feedback on other "OEM" units. Porsche cost$ more, of cour$e...

Really? Where? Paragon lists OEM's for $119.50 each, and I think Sunset quotes the same price. This is the next major project on my car, so any leads on the best price is appreciated.

By the way, any recommendations on other maintenance to do with the crossmember removed? Tom in Austin suggests replacing the power steering hoses and steering rack bushings, and I'm wondering if it wouldn't be a good time to clean up the ground on top of the bell housing. Anything else that makes sense to do along with the mounts?

Maybe it was ~119 each. I know they are pricy.... I'm just going by memory.

I would suggest using Porsche motor mounts. The reason why escapes me at the moment, but I remember my mechanic giving a demonstration of aftermarket vs OEM. I paid $112.00 each

I think one reason that OEM are prefered is that those things are higher tech than most mounts. They are oil filled and if you don't manufacture them with the right materials or processes, then they fail earlier.

They may not be the best, but for 928s (similar engine to the 968 in a few ways, at least) it is common to use Ford or Anchor Motor Mounts...at only $25-$30 each...and many claim the last as long or longer and you can't tell the difference. (928s also have fluid filled mounts although I don't think the Anchors are but users are almost universally happy). Lots of info on Rennlist 928 site on these.

What I don't know is if there is a similar mount that will work on the 968 that's virtually identical and could be a replacement. It would be nice if it were possible.

BTW, replacing these buggers in the 928 is probably more difficult than doing a belt job.

It's not easy on a 968 either! I've done a 944 Turbo's motor mounts before.
