Bellypan under the back end of a 968?
#1

I remember that my 944 had an aluminum "belly pan" under the fuel tank area. Does anyone know if it was offered as an option or has anybody has seen one offered as an aftermarket item? Seems it might be of some good if for no other reason to clean up the airflow from under the car a little. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Are you referring to the rear spoiler under the bumper?

No, it was an aluminum tray-looking thing very much like the one under the (944) engine only smaller.

i've heard of such things on the TRS, but never on an NA - that being said, i have recently been working on exactly what you are talking about, and have some prototypes done - still playing with them a bit

flash, regarding your prototypes, were you going more for form or function or maybe a combination of both? I thought about the possibility of having one made of aluminum but then came thoughts of how cool carbon fiber would be... then came reality and I figured a more cost effective solution might be fiberglass. What did you come up with?

BTW, what the heck would you call this pan thing back there? A groin pan? A booty pan? ??? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Awesome, sounds exciting! I look forward to seeing one of your finished products! If you eventually make it into the production mode with these, count me in, I'll take one!!!

lol - definitely for function - i am purely function over form

i chose aluminum because of the heat - that is also why they are still in prototype stage - too much heat - i am working on exiting the heat, and not losing the aerodynamic benefits - i hope to have this worked out in the next few weeks, but i am on another larger "top-secret" project right now

The Swiss cars got some sort of cover for the transmission to reduce noise I believe. Was your car Swiss?
