Hood bumpers
#1

Ok, this will win the "Most Challenging and Difficult Technical Question on the Forum" award....

After seeing everyone's cars with the hoods up at the Celebration in Hershey, I realized that my 968 didn't have the two rubber bumpers on the sides of the hood track (ie, under the hood on the fenders) to help cushion the hood when closed. Being the perfectionist, I ordered the two bumpers and they just arrived. I saw them near the firewall line, but want to be sure I have them in the correct place before gluing them in. Would someone be so kind as to measure how far from the back of the hood they should be placed? (Do they go in front of the rubber seal on the firewall or after?) Thanks!

I wish I had them BEFORE the wind blew the hood shut one recent day...

Put the Little Suckers Right There! (Equal distance and even across from each other)

IIRC, you sort of have to work them around the shape of the fender metal, but keep at it and they WILL fit!

Hope this helps!

And you should not need to glue them in place.

Thanks guys, I knew I could count on my three amigos! (how many people does it take to install a tiny piece of rubber???)

Thanks for the pic, Darth, that helped. Clever girl that I am, that's actually exactly where I put them and thought "they don't need to be glued in, they're sufficiently wedged in there" so thanks for confirming, Anchorman.

Darth, are you back home in Indiana? And how are the two "kids" getting along?

Kathy, After seeing the photo, I realized my car doesn't have those either.

Where did you get them, what were the part #s and the price?

Thanks in advance

Yep, we made the "Long Haul" (literally) with the 911SC on the trailer, just one month ago today. Got out of FL just before the wildfires cut off I75 and I10!!! How lucky is that? Made the trip with absolutely no problems... I must be living right!

The "kids", so far have stayed on their own side of the garage, but I hear the 968 sniffling occasionally! so, I give it some extra attention! Photo attached of your floor mats installed! Love 'em!

I am also missing one. Looking forward to the part #.

I think I will glue it in, because they obviously fall out over time.

They are part #944-511-485-0 and are called Hood Buffers or Hood Bumpers, rubber. I got a couple from Sunset In July of 2010 for $8.64 each. However I asked Sunset about these a few months ago and was told they are now on the dreaded No Longer Available list. I hope you can get lucky and score some anyway.

Mine are original and glued on, not to say that the PO didn't do it though. I heard they were NLA so it's great to see people actually getting them.

I think I found some!!!

Try this link at Paragon - http://www.paragon-products.com/Hood-Bum...23.185.htm

Although it appears to be only for the 944, if you read closely, it says it will also fit the 968. Makes sense to me, so I'm going to go for it. I'll let you know if they are perfect fits, or if mods are needed.

I'm replacing both, keeping the one I have in spare, and GLUING with some silicone sealant - should be enough (with good fit and friction) from another one dropping down into the engine compartment and smoking me out...

Thanks, All.

Jim

The picture looks a little different than the 968 ones. But get a couple and let us know how they work out.

It's too easy to loose these you're working on the car. I was missing one for a while. Fortunately I found where it had come off sometime during the engine pull. Like the idea mentioned above of gluing them down; need to see if I still have any door gasket around.

if we are talking about the uppers, it's just a chunk of fairly standard weatherstripping. you can buy that stuff in bulk. i thought somebody here had already found it.
