Hibernation coming
#1

I am going to have a back operation next Tuesday and won't be able to drive for a while. So, the question is what to I do while I am recuperating? Could be 6 weeks. Disconnect the battery? My wife does not drive the car.

I'm not going to try to answer the question - I'll leave that to the experts.

I will, though, wish you the best for a safe, fast, and painless procedure and recovery. (I know that, during the course of what you're about to go through, there will be times that certainly don't feel fast or painless, but when you look back, it will seem better.)

I'll second Anchor on both of his points, and add one more- listen to what the doctor tells you to do in terms of recovery. If I am guessing correctly, you're going to be going through some physical therapy during your recovery- make sure you stay on top of the exercises and other things they give you to do. It may be a pain, it may be painful, but if you do not, you severly risk making a full recovery. The last thing you want to do is sacrifice any type of range of motion and the like because it was a "hassle" to stretch every day like the docs told you to do....

Good luck and get well soon!

Bring the car to me; I'll give her proper exercise, it may cost you a set of Fikse wheels... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Seriously, hope you have an easy time of it. We are all thinking of you.

Also, 6 weeks isn't too long not to drive the car, you may want a battery tender.

Cosimo,

I have a spare battery tender you can borrow. Give me a ring or PM here...

I would also be happy to "exercise" your car for a time or two.

If there's anything you guys need while you're re-cooping, don't hesitate to give a ring.

Thanks for the well wishes. Roght now I can't drive more than 10 minutes without getting a pain in my right leg (back of my thigh, sciata nerve). Bummer. So they are are going to take the top of 4 vertabrae off to allow the nerve more room. Darryl I will give you a call. Can't wait to be able to drive again. What an awful malady for a person who loves Porches and the 968 to not be able to drive.

Just to pass on one experience, my 968 sat unused for about 4 months after an accident. Most of the time is was covered or in my garage, except for about 3 weeks in the sun, before I got to the repairs. Given it's state at the time, nobody did any prep work. After some rudimentary checks and minor functional repairs, I simply charged the battery and it immediately started up and drove like before. (One rudimentary check: vacuum out a mouse nest, and check wires, under the intake manifold!).

Best of luck with the back injury.
