lol - it is a resort after all.

frankly though, i can't remember the last time i paid less than $250 for a decent hotel, and we often pay about $400, sometimes more, especially if we stay at a resort of something like that. even the marriott in paso is that much most of the time. you get what you pay for most of the time though. having travelled as much as i have, i have come to appreciate what the nicer hotels mean in the way of being rested in the morning. even just the noise level makes a big difference. the better hotels usually have better walls and doors, which means less noise bugging you at night.

I might shop around. I can cancel and get a full refund for the room up to 24 hours before check in. If Saturday looks like bad weather, I might just drive up for the Friday night function and then just drive home after. No interest in walking around at the swap meet if its raining.

Makes no sense to spend $250 on a hotel room in order to save $50 on a steering wheel.

I'm about 1.5 hrs south, probably going to drive up on one day either Friday evening or Saturday. Which is more worth going to? I usually only last a few hours at best for these types of events as I do not like crowds. I'm more interested in seeing other 968 and meeting other owners than looking through old parts.

When I hosted the 2 day 968 Celebration in 2002, we used the Hilton Garden Inn and had a rate of $89. However, the reservations had to be made nlt January since all hotel rates go up the closer you get to the Swap Meet. In another week or so, there will not be any hotel available. I did a google search on Hotels in Hershey, Pa and there were a lot of choices but their prices have probably gone up too.

Whether to go up Friday or Saturday?

- Friday events (to my knowledge) are Jeff C and some of the 968 Register members are meeting at the parking lot at the Hilton Garden Inn after dinner. I, and some other 968 owners are attending the Porsche Style and Design evening event www.aacamuseum.org/exhibitions/porsche-style-design.aspx at the AACA Museum from 6:00 pm - 10:00 which features German food and drink and a presentation by renowned Porsche author Karl Ludvigsen. Rumor has it that Jerry Seinfeld may show up, since he has attended many swap meets in previous years (he is always looking for a new toy!). They will be selling autographed copies of Porsche Origin of the Species - which features Jerry Seinfeld's car.

- Saturday events (to my knowledge) the Porsche Only Swap Meet opens around 7:30 am and, after paying the entrance fee (I believe $15 this year) you can park in either general Porsche Parking, special Porsche 968 parking (had to be prearranged) or in the Concours (entrance $10) where you will find other 968's parked (Jeff has parked his Minty there for the last few years). No competition from me in the Concours since my 968 Coupe will still be on display at the Museum. Trick is to get there early to snag the really good deals from the many vendors. The Concours awards are at 1:00 pm and they do have a farthest distance award. Food and drink stands, and seating, are available. Bring a folding chair, an umbrella (no rain last year) and cash since most vendors do not take credit cards.

Hope to see many of you 968 owners at either the Hilton Garden Inn, the AACA Museum Friday night or at the Swap on Saturday!

Yep that's mine. I got there late and that was one of the last spots behind that duece and a half. Why didn't you bring yours?

I think I will go up Friday evening. Thanks Redbaron. Is Jeff's meet in the Hilton parking lot a private event or is it open to other 968 owners?

Are we going to have a 968 only parking space?

Maybe we could all meet at the Hilton Garden Inn and drive over and park together.

Cosmo, if this is for Friday evening I'm down for that. I've never been to this so it would ease some anxiety for me.

I hadn't found time to get my car titled. Finally got around to it on April 4th since I took the day off from work. I showed up at 9:30am with my son. We parked the X5 around the side of what used to be Best Buy. I was really blown away by the turnout. They estimated 800+ cars.

Wait you have a radio? I thought if you bought a used 968 it went without saying that the radio didn't work! Least that's been my experience.

Funny you say that Rap, I have a radio but I didn't say it worked well. It works but I do have an issue with either the speaker or amp on the passenger side.It randomly starts to crackle/distort sometimes, then goes away.

I believe there were issues with mine when I bought the car. The passenger side speakers were only partially working, and I think the radio cut in and out, or some parts of it didn't work. Same with my 944S, and probably the 924 when I bought it.

Both 968's I bought had non working radios. I put in new catbacks and love the sound!

For those who are still having trouble getting a room in Hershey for the Swap Meet, you may want to check out the Quality Inn & Suite in Hershey and the Springhill Suites Marriott, both of which are close to the AACA Museum and the Swap Meet. The Quality Inn (717-583-5151) said they have 20 two queen bed rooms for $129.99 plus tax and have an indoor pool. The Springhill Suites Marriott(717-583-2222) said they have 18 two queen bed rooms for $199 plus tax and have both indoor pool and hot tub. Springhill Suites said they would negotiate price down to $159 if they get a block of 10 room reservation - somebody out there want to coordinate - or - with two queen beds in each room, you could be getting the room for half price if you can share with a friend.

Look me up if you can make it.

Hi Folks,

Well, I really thought I was gonna make it to this one, but, nope. I'm looking for the little, 3/4" +/- round louvered-looking, black plastic plug in the middle of the dashboard insert. It doesn't pop out. It unscrews. [as several esteemed colleagues have put it -- ask me how I know?]

I'd be delighted if one of you who is attending the swap meet could grab me one. Any takers? Anybody have one sitting in their basement?

Many thanks in advance.

What are you all seeing as far as the weather forecast. I've got a ticket for the AACA function Friday night. I think they are calling for severe thunderstorms Friday night. I am tempted to just drive up in my X5 and drive home after the function. I could cancel the room tomorrow and save myself $250. Can use that money towards a new steering wheel or exhaust. If Friday night is thunderstorms and Saturday is drizzly and 50 degrees, I might be smart to just bag sleeping over.

Anyone seeing a different forecast?
