I'm thinking of a dash enhancement kit...
#1

I'm contemplating purchasing a real-wood dash enhancement kit for my 968. Has anyone out there purchased one?

Did you like it? What was the manufacturer? Was it garbage?

I had purchased one for my Boxster off flea-bay a while back. I didn't install it cause it wasn't cut correctly and looked like grabage in real life.

My son is a woodworker and said he'd like to try and make some for the car, but he wants to actuall make a replacement piece out of wood, not just a veneer that gets stuck on.

Any ideas?

Thoughts?

i think they can look gret in the right car (remember, i come from a background of british cars) - a car with all cashmere for example looks great - very plush - a car with deviating interior (such as mine) is too busy - kind of bummed me out because i wanted the wood dash

so far, i have only seen the stick on kind and they leave too much clearance aound the existing stuff - they look stuck on - the heater controls are the main spot - they don't have a piece between the sliders - if it was a replacement piece instead of a layover, it would look a lot better - the problem is that some of these dash pieces are pretty complicated, and really can't be made out of wood

good luck

I"m also doing a dash enhancement, but in a different direction.

I've ordered the GT racing dash; we're going to put in a few extra guages, as well. Not wood, but fiberglass.

As soon as I get my car I'll take some photos, but I don't expect it before July. It's just as well, because I had shoulder reconstruction 2 weeks ago and can't do anything until July anyway!

Jason - one of the barriers of my son making the real wood pieces is that I'd have to take my dash apart so he can have templates. I don't want to drive around with dash pieces missing!

Would you be willing to sell or donate the few plastic pieces after you're dash replacement?

Michael,

Sure that shouldn't be a problem.

Let me get finished with the interior, and we'll talk. Like I said though, it probably won't be much before mid-July.

Being a finish carpenter by trade, I agree that your son could make the dash (any pieces) from solid wood, it will be a PITA and won't be quick but it can be done with wood steaming and back beveling corner peices. It will be a labor of love. Cook him a nice dinner or 3 when he's done. I did the same thing to a BMW 525i dash, took me 2 months of free time to complete, I was very happy to be finished with that poject. I won't do that again.

how would you handle all the little clips and such on the back? i've broken more than my share of them, and i have to tell you, it's a pretty complicated setup

love to see it though
