Kuehl Compressor kit
#1

Does anyone have experience with the Kuehl Compressor Kit sold at griffiths? Good, bad??

My compressor locked up and I am researching options. I have an early car with an R-12 system.

Bummer about the compressor.

I just sold my a/c set-up because we're making my car a dedicated track car. It was the R-134 type.

If I had known, I would have contacted you.

Sorry,

Jason

Bart - take a look at the thread http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtopic=905

I just replaced a Nippondenso compressor, evap hose and received dryer on my son's 944 NA this weekend (getting to that hose was a real PITA too! had to remove so many shrouds etc). I decided to try a rebuilt compressor off eBay for $200. Just waiting for the HC coolant now and will report when I recharge the system.

I plan to use the HC in the 968 Cab too - it's a R12 OEM fill that worked until the dealer bled it all out when they pulled the motor for the previous owner and replaced all the engine seals - that's another long story though. It was shocking how many things were left off the car (loose suspension bolts, missing hardware, etc.) - no wonder he was so desperate to sell the car!

Better late that never! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Just did the conversion to the Kuehl compressor after having bad luck with a rebuilt unit and a used one from flea-bay (both leaked from seams in the body).

This is a very complete kit. New compressor, hoses, drier, belt, o-rings and adapter brackets.

This is also a one way deal. You have to cut and splice the low pressure line so you are committed to the new deal unless you want to buy and install a new AC line that is pretty much buried in the car. Splicing the line is probably the most difficult task. You have to determine the length and cut the line in the car, then wrestle the splice fitting into the stump end.

The compressor mounts via adapter brackets and once you get the orientation figured out, you have to hack saw one "ear" off the compressor body to clear the sway bar. It is aluminum so it is pretty easy.

I have only a few test drive miles on the conversion so no performance impressions yet. I'll follow-up when summer hits full force.
