Help needed: 968 engine in a 924
#1

I run a 927 in a Bonneville land speed racing class and while the car's been very successful in setting and then resetting the two liter naturally aspirated class, it's run is about over as configured. Therefore I'm considering the installation of what would be a modified 968 power plant in the car. I realize that the engine mounting is different and that the clutch is hydraulically actuated (versus the 924's cable) as well as the ECM issues I'll have to address, but the first question I have concerns the drive train. My life would be immeasurably easier if the 968 will mate to the 924 drive train - specifically the bell housing. In looking at pictures of the rear of the 968 block I've found on  line, the shape and bolt placement looks  to be the same, but it may only be similar - versus identical. Anyone here know that answer? Thanks for any help!

Hi Rick

If you get to the UK TIPEC forum, there is a man on there with the user name JasonGibson who runs a 924 with a 968 motor as a daily driver!!!!

I am sure he will know the answer to most of your questions

I'm back hat in hand again... Jason Gibson was kind enough to reply to my call out on TIPEC, but he no longer has the car and didn't personally do the swap as it was done almost completely by a UK Porsche tuner shop. So, if anyone here knows anyone who knows anything about what I'm pondering, please chime in. Smile

Why not contact Jon Mitchel at JMG Porsche

I’m sure he would respond to an email or two, he’s a decent enough bloke, I have spoken to him once or twice
