HELP!!!!
#1

HI Guys,

I decided to take my car out today for a ride and it didnt want to start. I cked the air filter looked good, then decided to ck the plugs. When i took the plug wire out, i noticed it was full of oil. I said O SH-T!!!

I cleaned all the oil out and cleaned the plugs and put back together and it started but it blowing white smoke, obviously burning motor oil. I cked the oil and it was clean and full. I just took the car last week to the store and it was fine. What is the problem???Valve seals???? Would it just go just like that??? Also seemed to idle a little rough as well???

Does anybody know any good Porsche Mechanics in Rhode Island??? Im a Electrician and pretty knowledgable and wouldnt be afraid to takle this myself with a little help from you guys and i wouldnt mind getting some experience on the car

Thanks

white or blue smoke? - oil should be a bit blue and smell like oil

oil takes a long time to burn off, so a little bit goes a long way

are you sure your plugs were tight? it doesn't take much for oil to get down there, especially since the o-rings under the valve cover are known to leak oil into the tunnel where the spark plug is - you may have just leaked some down in there when you pulled the plugs

Yep, I'm betting it's oil that leaked in there from the spark plug hole. You probably just need to replaced the seals for the spark plug hole. Paragon sells a whole kit that has the seals, valve cover and other what not gaskets to do the job. It's something you can easily do at home.

Hey Guys,

I spoke to a couple of Mechanics and you are exactly right. After a simple explantion from the mechanic , it sounds as though the oil is leaking thru the seal and into the chamber. So when i took the plugs out the oil went into the cylinder which explains all the smoke. I will order the gaskets and change them.

I will post my results

Thanks guys for the quick response.

Just curious as if the gaskets were needed to solve the problem. Before we bought out 968 we took it out for a drive. We drove it pretty hard and it ran well. We went back to the dealer and finally cut a deal. It was Saturday afternoon and the only guy left there was the guy we bought it from and he was in a hurry to go home. We shook hands and started the car up. It ran on 3 cylinders. We took it down the street to try to clean it out but it got worse. I borrowed a plug wrench and my heart sank when I pulled #2. There was oil everywhere. After a heated discussion with the car salesman who basically said "you bought it" we decided to leave it there till first of week and let his mechanic look at it. After thinking about it for a while I remembered that while the plug was a little stiff coming out I didn't remember it breaking loose. I deduced that we had blown compression past the plug during the test drive which made it blow oil past the rings and pump it up thru the plug thread. We went back, caught the salesman driving out of the lot and said "I want my car". By then the plug which I had removed and replaced had dripped off and it ran fine on all four. We drove it pretty hard those 200 miles home without a drop of oil going anywhere. The plugs showed some wear. They had been like that for some time. Noone had obviously driven it that hard since they had been installed. I drive the car 10K between oil changes and it's about ready for it's first quart when I change it. Never changed any gaskets. Just tightened the plug. Never again had any oil in the plug holes.

I would change out the gaskets on the valve cover. The kit I mentioned above from Paragon has all the gaskets you will need, including the sealing rings for the plug holes. If you don't have records of those gaskets being changed, then it's time..
