Heat shield rattle
#1

I notice a strong metallic rattle from the aftermarket (design1racing) heat shield. The shield works perfect and is nice and tight. It was quite a job to get it in place. The rattling, kind of, goes away as the engine warms up. Anything to do about it or should it be ignored?

Why do you think it is the heat shield that is rattling?  Mine hasn't made a sound.  Maybe it's something else.

The rattling sound definitely comes from the shield area. I will investigate further.

More than likely the factory heat shield cracked where it attaches to the oil filter housing. Its hard to see from the top, looking from underneath gives you a better view

Or is it the shield that protects the oil level sender? That was the one in my case.

I have had to weld up both those heat shields, what a pain the oil filter housing one is to get off

yeah - the OEM shields are pretty thin, and lack proper support.  the slightest thing and they can rattle.
