Headlight trim ring removal
#1

My right trim ring was cracked and the left headlight was cracked. New headlight 300$ from Germany. Also, two new h4 bulbs. Easy job. Put light in upright position and turn off key. Then pull out retaining handles . The pull light gently forward and remove three cover screws. Then remove two allen head trim ring screws. then remove 4 headlight retaining screws (three on top and one on bottom). Unhook wires and cover.

New headlight comes with new lower nylon mounts, but save old parts just in case....

new headlight seemed to sit a cm higher in stored position. Again, raise headlight, pull release handle, and release two rod nuts on headlamp positioning shaft. They turn oppositely. Adjust rod to get headlight to correct closed position. then lock them. Also check 10mm nut on the headlight motor shaft. Both of mine were loose.

Found out my car had a right front collision as I saw the 'true' metalwork under the headlamp. Also knew this from the damage to the radiator. Must have a 'new' front bumper cover beacuse it is spotless.

As for the cracked lower trim rings...they are on the bench. Only notice them when lights are up, and when lights are up, it is usually dark, so I don't miss them.

can adjust headlight aiming position on flat surface against a wall. stuff on the net for this.

Xrad,

Both of my headlight rings were also cracked along with hariline fractures along the top screw of both covers. On the underneath side of both rings and headlinght covers, I used a product called Quick Metal. It is an hogh temp epoxy that sets in a few minutes. Anyway, with a few layers of this, I was able to make the brocken items quite strong, secure but still flexible. It is not absolutely perfect and the hairline fractures are still noticiable if your look carefully but, as you said, I am the only one who sees them and it is dark then anyway!! I may have a go with some Dr Colourchip on the hairline fractures. Yet to face up to the purchase given the outrageous freight charge they are quoting to Australia!!

On another but connected matter, I had been wondering why one of my headlights had a shake to it. It looks like one of the lower rubber bushes that support the headlight is missing. Does anyone know if this is a part that can be purchased separately. No doubt this shake will test my epoxy repair if I let it go on forever.

Love the forum!!
